An amazing story... By Chaya Sarah Silberberg on the Shluchos Network
The Rebbe my father told someone at yechidus: Ever since G-d told our father Avraham, "Go from your land etc." and it is then written "Avram kept travelling southward," we have the beginning of the mystery of birurim. By decree of Divine Providence man goes about his travels to the place where the "sparks" that he must purify await their redemption.
Tzadikim, who have vision, see where their birurim await them and go there deliberately. As for

Forty children learn Yiddishkeit and Hebrew at the Sunday morning classes. The visitor, who has supported the resurgence of Jewish life in Hanover, is a friend of shluchim Rabbi Binyamin and Sterna Wolf, and she will also emcee the central Chanukah lighting ceremony in Opera Square this year.
Mrs. Lange spoke to the children and took part in the Sunday School’s activities, preparing a bracelet with the letters of her name in Hebrew and English.
When the shlucha tied the bracelet on Mrs. Lange’s wrist, Mrs. Lange, who was very moved, spontaneously gave Mrs. Wolf her own personal bracelet.
During the visit, the children showed Mrs. Lange and their parents the play that they will perform on Chanukah, which was produced by teacher and shlicha Hadass Juri and the Sunday School staff.
After stepping into the classrooms, the staff and PTA sat down with Mrs. Lange for a light lunch and spoke to her about the importance of developing Jewish life in the city.
Mrs. Lange was very impressed by the children and the material they studied, and she promised to do what she could to facilitate the re-growth of Jewish life in Hanover.
The Rebbe's Advice #273 - STAY PUT Someone had written the Rebbe about a family relative who was not in the best of health, and desired to come to New York and spend some time in the Rebbe’s presence. He also wrote the Rebbe that the doctors said it was a revealed miracle that he feels better and is getting better from day to day. The Rebbe circled the words, “feels better and is getting better from day to day,” and wrote, “Therefore, he should not change his place [by coming to New York].“ Ibid. p. 36

SHMAIS.COM EXCLUSIVE: New Shul Opening in Crown Heights
SHMAIS.com has learned that a brand new Shul is about to open in Crown Heights. The new Shul, to be located in the former store fronts occupied by Virtual Imaging on Albany Avenue between Empire & Lefferts is the result of many a Farbrengen between a group of Chaveireim, in their mid twenties and early thirties. The group recently resolved to open a Shul which will focus on Achdus, Chassidishkeit and Frumkeit.
Thirty Yungeleit have already contributed $1200 each to cover the expenses of the renovations currently underway as well as the bills they will incur during the first year.
No opening date has been set for the Shul but look out for a Farbrengen on 14 Kislev when their lease goes into effect.
Thus far, the Shul has no name and no Rabbi.
Afula Celebrates New Sefer Torah Last night (Sunday), a new sefer Torah written in the memory of murdered shluchim Rabbi Gavriel and Rivka Holtzberg Hy”d was brought into the shul in Afula, Rivka’s home town.
The sefer Torah was generously donated by Rabbi Levi Yitzchok Samama. The last letters were written at the home of Rabbi and Mrs. Rosenberg, the parents of Rivka Holtzberg, after which the scroll was carried through the streets of Afula in a magnificent procession.
Present at the event were many leading Rabbis and public figures.
LIVING WITH MOSHIACH #1635 We see in recent years how the verse "Moshe gathered... the Jews" is occurring literally -- the ingathering of the exiles of Jews from all over the world, who are returning to the Holy Land. Former Mossad MIA Man – Shalit Deal Catastrophic by Yoni Kempinski - Arutz-7

In the following video, Igra estimates that, at this point the Hamas has many reasons to continue postponing and rejecting any deal. However, if the reports are accurate, Igra warns that the release of so many terrorists, and such prominent ones, will change the situation in the middle east.

'Army without weapons' fights back after Mumbai attacks Sify
The storming of a Jewish cultural and religious centre in Mumbai by Islamist gunmen one year ago left six people dead and a deep scar in the psyche of the Jewish outreach movement that ran the site.
Among the victims were Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg, 29, and his pregnant wife, Rivki, 28, who had come to India's financial capital from New York five years earlier to establish an open house for visiting Jews and the local community.

Teachers Rabbi Aryeh Leib Cohen and Rabbi Yair Bernstein held parties for the children at the branches on Nordau Street and Rabbi Akiva Street. After a few words of welcome, the children licked honey from the letters aleph and beis from a copy of the Tanya. They did everything with great joy and song before their fathers carried them on their shoulders in a cheerful dance.
During the ceremony, the teachers emphasized the importance of learning with the children at a young age and the benefits of detecting and treating any developmental or learning problems. Also present at the parties were community Rabbi and director of Chabad institutions Rabbi Menachem Wolpo, deputy director of Chabad in Netanya, Rabbi Yitzchok Teichtel, and the director of the Chabad kindergartens, Rabbi Yair Mauda.
LIVING WITH MOSHIACH #1634 Our Sages teach: "Moshiach will come only when the mind is otherwise occupied."
In truth, this is the highest form of expecting Moshiach. We must await Moshiach regardless of our understanding of the benefit we will derive from his coming. We must cast aside all thought of material or spiritual gain, focusing on only one thing: With the coming of Moshiach, the Divine intent of creation -- that G-d will have an abode in this world -- will be fulfilled.

Say you saw it on Shmais!School Bus Tragedy Miraculously Averted at Toras Emes On Friday a miracle occurred in Jerusalem’s Shikkun Chabad neighborhood, when a school bus almost fell into the yard of the Vizhnitz Talmud Torah while dozens of children were in the vicinity.
This incident occurred at around midday, when a school bus had arrived at the adjacent Chabad Talmud Torah (Toras Emes) at the end of the erev Shabbos learning day. The driver made a reverse but accidentally pressed on the accelerator. The bus shot backwards, damaging a fence, and was suspended in mid air above the schoolyard below.
A serious tragedy was just about averted, one of the teachers at the Talmud Torah later reported. If the vehicle had fallen into the yard, the consequences could have been disastrous.
Report: Shalit Deal 'Closer than Ever' (IsraelNN.com) Manager Meir Indor of the Almagor umbrella group of terror-victims associations said Sunday that a senior diplomatic source told him that deal for the release of abducted Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit was closer than ever. Families of terror victims oppose the release of hundreds of terrorists in exchange for Shalit.
Interviewed on Arutz Sheva's Hebrew news journal, the reserves lieutenant-colonel said the source told him, "Unfortunately for you, you can worry. This time it's serious. There's progress toward a deal." An estimated 1,400 security prisoners, including convicted murderers, stand to be released in three stages if the reports are true. Indor plans to petition the Supreme Court to overturn the deal or at least prevent the release of certain prisoners.

Orthodox views: Jewish community faces uncertain future in Postville By JOHN MOLSEED, john.molseed@wcfcourier.com
POSTVILLE - The Agri Star kosher meat processing plant offers a potential stabilizing force for the battered economy of Postville. Despite the promise of more jobs, members of the Orthodox Jewish community say they still face an uncertain future.
The plant may draw observant Jews to work at Agri Star as ritual slaughterers, known as shochtim, but members of the Orthodox Jewish community say they need more than employment to sustain their community. People who adhere to halakhah, Jewish religious law, find the cost of keeping their faith while living in Postville has risen since last year.
An immigration raid in May 2008 forced Agriprocessors, the predecessor to Agri Star, to shut down last year. Most members of Postville's Jewish community depended on the plant for their income.
Many Jewish families also relied on the plant's owner, Aaron Rubashkin, and manager, Sholom Rubashkin, for more than a paycheck.
"The generosity of the Rubashkins had created a company town atmosphere within the Orthodox Jewish community," said Aaron Goldsmith, a Postville business owner and member of the Orthodox Jewish community.

Chabad brings Jewish view to Flag A new course designed to help Jewish members of the community better understand the concepts life, death and beyond is currently being offered at the Chabad of Flagstaff, AZ.
SoulQuest, a series of seven classes designed by the national Jewish Learning Institute (JLI), helps students learn about their own mortality from a Judaic standpoint. The course focuses on the use of spirit in finding one’s ultimate purpose in life.
Rabbi Dovie Shapiro, who teaches SoulQuest at the Chabad, said the course is designed to answer the many questions people have concerning their humanity.
“The course focuses on who we really are,” Shapiro said. “Are we really more than our bodies? Can we access our souls to make a practical difference in the world around us? These classes help [us] understand that from a Jewish perspective.”
Originally a course written by Rabbi Yisrael Rice of the JLI, SoulQuest is currently taught in more than 300 Jewish communities throughout the country.

From China to Illinois - Rosh Chodesh Kislev in Chicago
Fresh off the inspiration of the International Kinus Hashluchim, Lubavitch Chabad of Illinois hosted a gala Rosh Chodesh Kislev Seuda and Farbrengen.
The event was a combination of somber and simcha, as the yartzeit of the Mumbai Kedoshim was simultaneously observed.
Rabbi Daniel Moscowitz, Head Shliach of the state of Illinois, welcomed the overflowing assemblage of men, women and children sharing some of the flavor of the Kinus.

It was the night before Yom Kippur. I made my way up the steps of many Montreal homes, accompanied by a new friend, Meir Simcha Rubashkin. Warmhearted Yidden welcomed us, understanding that we were there for a cause.
As soon as my companion, Meir Simcha, said his last name, they understood. That Rubashkin. Our hosts involuntarily squirmed when he said who his father is, confronted - despite themselves - with the deep discomfort engendered by the name.
Young Lubavitcher entrepreneurs bring popular deal site down under Patrick Stafford
A local version of US online discount retailer 1saleaday.com has been opened by two Melbourne entrepreneurs, in a direct challenge to market rivals including Deals Direct and Catch of the Day.
Founder and local operator Simon Mochkin says the company is able to offer better deals than Australian operators, such as Zazz, due to its relationship with the parent company in the US.
"We think we have a better deal because we've partnered with the US company. We have the advantage of sourcing products from overseas, and given the value of the Australian dollar, that's a good deal with prices you don't ever see."
Mochkin claims the US version of the site is the second-largest discount online retailer in the world, second to founder of the one-sale-a-day concept Woot.com, with a market value of about $US30 million. Like its rivals, the site sells only one product per day until sold out.

The world aroundMumbai Doctor Smashed Idols and Became a Jew with Holtzbergs by Hana Levi Julian
(Israelnationalnews.com) In a powerful echo of the Biblical story of the patriarch Abraham, a Mumbai doctor smashed his father's idols and eventually decided to become a Jew in the Land of Israel.
Dr. Aharon Abraham, left his position as Director of the ICU Medical Center at British Kennedy in Mumbai, India after terrorists murdered his spiritual guide and his wife, Rabbi Gabi and Rivky Holtzberg one year ago.
Abraham was born Vagirds Frads to a Hindu cleric who worshipped idols, and a mother who prepared food for them. As did the Biblical Abraham, young Vagirds could not understand how his father could honor a man-made statue, nor why his mother would cook for them. "Sometimes I eat it in secret," he confided in an article that appeared in Hebrew in Sichat HaShavuah.
Unlike the patriarch, however, he waited until after graduating high school to confront his father, asking how he could believe "such nonsense." But when there was no reply, his anger led him to take a hammer and smash the idols, exactly as Abraham had done. "The gods are angry!" his father shouted at him, he recounted, and recalled his reply: "If they're angry, let them do something, reconstruct themselves..."
It was while studying medicine at the University of Mumbai that he first read a Bible, given to him by Christian students. Amazed, he read the story of Abraham and many others. "A new world opened before me," he said.continue...

Every Rabbi was given a schedule listing opportunities for 120 hours of learning, symposiums, and general ideas for spreading Yiddishkeit.
The main highlight was a banquet held on Sunday night. There, all the Rabbis and laymen gathered together for a dinner and inspirational speakers. One speaker, Rabbi Aryeh Sufrin, represented the United Kingdom. He had just received a M.B.E. - Member of the British Empire - from Queen Elizabeth II. Rabbi Sufrin is one of the few people to receive such an honor for his work in drug intervention for over 47,000 students. His program is now being taught worldwide.
Another speaker was a leading educator, Dr. Luchins of the Touro College. He spoke about the tremendous influence Chabad held in the field of education. He showed how, in every place he visited, he met a Chabad Shaliach that was busy helping preserve Judaism. From his trips to Russia to Calcutta, India, to Israel and all over the United States, there was always an address where he was able to find a Shaliach and a spiritual oasis.
I had the pleasure of sitting with a group of Rabbis from Italy, Australia, Israel, Canada, and the U.S. It was fascinating knowing that we all spoke different languages and had different mannerisms but the common denominator was working for the Rebbe's ideals - that no Jew be left behind. That each Jew was to be considered a complete world of importance. continue...
LIVING WITH MOSHIACH #1632 Moshiach signifies the separation of the good from the evil. This is why he will come "only in a generation which is altogether meritorious or altogether sinful," i.e., at a time in which there will be no mixture of good and evil. So as long as Moshiach has not come, there is a mixture of good and evil in all the worlds: there is no good without evil and no evil without good. (Rabbi Shneur Zalman)

Record Number of Boys Join Chabad Cheder Chabad in the Israeli city of Holon continues to grow. This week, 46 new boys from diverse Jewish backgrounds joined the local Chabad cheder, Bnei Menachem Chabad, in the city with a special ceremony at which they first learned the letters.
The little boys were carried into the cheder by the fathers, wrapped in a tallis. It was a particularly moving ceremony, during which many parents shed tears of emotion.
When a representative of the parents spoke, he mentioned that the number of children joining the cheder always doubled every year.
The director of Chabad institutions in Holon, Rabbi Dovid Gurary thanked the staff of the Talmud Torah including teacher Alon Khakhshour, kindergarten teacher Tammy Saadon, and Rebbitzen Rivka Gurary, principal of the Chabad kindergartens and Talmud Torah.

Government dismisses charges against Rubashkin Associated Press
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Prosecutors have dismissed all 72 immigration charges against a former Iowa kosher slaughterhouse manager.
The move came after Sholom Rubashkin's conviction last week in federal court on financial fraud charges.
Prosecutors filed the motion Thursday morning, one day after a bail hearing for Rubashkin, the former manager of Agriprocessors, Inc.
Rubashkin was scheduled to go on trial for the immigration charges on Dec. 2 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The Agriprocessors plant was the site of a massive immigration raid in May 2008.

Thousands gather to mark anniversary of Mumbai Chabad House terror attack BEN HARTMAN , THE JERUSALEM POST
Chabad held a memorial dinner on Wednesday in honor of Rabbi Gavriel Holzberg and his wife Rivka, who were killed when terrorists raided the Chabad house in Mumbai a year ago on the Hebrew calendar.
A crowd of well over 2,000 guests filled a massive tent in Kfar Chabad set up outside the replica of the Rebbe's house in Brooklyn. A service manager said over 100 people worked the event, including at least 80 waiters. Organizers said the demand for tickets was "enormous" and that thousands of people who wanted to attend were turned away.
The event was a bittersweet celebration of sorts, as the Hebrew anniversary of the terror attack also fell on the third birthday of Moishe, Rabbi Holzberg's son, whose life was saved when he was spirited away from the attack by his Indian nanny Sandra Samuel. For Orthodox Jews, a boy does not cut his hair until his third birthday and the event is cause for a celebration.
Across a blue-grey curtain on the wall of the womens' section of the tent, dozens of blue and white balloons spelled out "Moishe, three years old." Moishe himself was carried in by Sandra shortly before the beginning of the event, and stood before a gaggle of reporters and cameras, calmly, even lazily, taking in the spectacle.
The celebration and memorial was organized by the Chabad Youth Organization, with their slogan "with all the love to everyone" splashed across banners throughout the tent, alongside silhouette drawings of the Holzbergs and Moishe. continue...

Prosecutors say financial help from outsiders makes Iowa slaughterhouse manager likely to flee By Associated Press
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — Prosecutors argued at a bail hearing for a former Iowa kosher slaughterhouse manager that an outpouring of financial support makes him a greater flight risk.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Peter Deegan noted at the Wednesday hearing that Sholom Rubashkin had raised money for his defense from supporters, and that money could be used to get Rubashkin and his family out of the country.
Rubashkin's attorneys have asked that Rubashkin be released on bail while he awaits sentencing for a fraud conviction.
Defense attorney Guy Cook says Rubashkin has "nowhere to hide" after the publicity surrounding the trial in Sioux Falls, S.D., and won't flee.
Judge Linda Reade says she will issue a ruling soon. Rubashkin is being held at the Woodbury County Jail.

SHMAIS.COM EXCLUSIVE - 770 is jammed packed. Thousands of Chassidim from every corner of the earth, are here to celebrate with the Rebbe. All eyes focus on the Rebbe as the Hakofos begin. The Rebbe holds the Sefer Torah aloft. His face radiates the sheer joy of Yom-Tov as he dances with [his brother in-law,] the Rashag (o.h.), on the dais in the shul's centre. It is Shmini Atzeres, 5738.
The first Hakofoh ends. The Rebbe walks, slowly, back to his place at the south-eastern wall. The second and third Hakofos are completed and the Rebbe, looking tired, has clapped his hands only a few times.
Hakofoh Daled, the Rebbe turns to face the crowd. The singing stops. Silence engulfs 770. The Rebbe's face is white as chalk. The Hakofoh begins. The Rebbe strains to bring his hands together to clap. He asks for a chair and sits.

Famous Lawyer Nat Lewin: Is Rubashkin The Victim In Agriprocessors Verdict? by Nathan Lewin - Special To The Jewish Week
Is the guilty verdict returned against Sholom Rubashkin by a jury of seven women and five men in Sioux Falls, S.D., the ultimate vindication of those who condemned Rubashkin from the time allegations against the kosher meat giant Agriprocessors were first publicized? Few will look beyond the word “guilty” and the seeming enormity of 86 counts to see whether Rubashkin actually committed acts that deserve criminal condemnation and imprisonment.

A Sefer Torah for Rabbi Benzion Kroman, Hy”d A year after the terrorist atrocity at the Chabad House in Mumbai, in which six innocent Jews were brutally murdered, the Bobov community in Bat Yam held a hachnosas sefer Torah in memory of Rabbi Benzion Kroman, Hy”d, one of the victims.
Rabbi Kroman, a Bobover Chassid who lived in Bat Yam, traveled to India in the course of his work as a kashrus supervisor. He was due to return to Israel and on that fateful night he stepped into the Chabad House to daven Mincha and Maariv. Sadly, he would never return to his family alive.
Rabbi Shimon Rosenberg, father of Rivky Holtzberg, Hy”d, also attended the memorial event. As soon as he arrived at Ben-Gurion airport on returning from the International Shluchim Conference, he traveled straight to Bat Yam for the hachnosas sefer Torah.

Canadian Prime Minister's wife shaken by visit to Mumbai Chabad House By Jane Taber - Theglobeandmail.com
Mumbai massacre revisited. Laureen Harper says she was “unprepared” for what she saw: the baby’s room. In an email this morning, Mrs. Harper reflected on her visit so far to India with her husband, Prime Minister Stephen Harper. This is the Prime Minister’s first visit to the country, an important one for trade for Canada. Yesterday, the couple visited Chabad House synagogue in Mumbai which was targeted by terrorists last year, resulting in the killing of Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg and his wife, Rivka. Their two-year son was spared.
“The trip to Chabad House was very sad indeed,” she wrote this morning from New Delhi, where they are now. “Everywhere you looked were bullet holes and damage from the attack. The rooms look so ordinary but the Rabbi who took us around would say two women were murdered in there.” She says that the only part “I was unprepared for was when we walked into the baby’s room … and how emotional it was. It was decorated like any baby’s room, multi-coloured walls, a very small bed and toys. I knew his parents probably were so excited to get it ready for him and they were both killed.”

Transcendent Joy, Transcendent Vision Celebrated at Chabad Conference Banquet by Dvora Lakein - Chabad Lubavitch Headquarters
(lubavitch.com) It was fitting that the staff and journalists present at last evening’s banquet in culmination of the 25th annual International Conference of Shluchim were seated on an upstairs balcony. The bird’s eye view of the proceedings downstairs was both moving and symbolic: most of the year, most of us are privy to these emissaries’ dealings from individual viewpoints, never quite seeing the full picture.
But at last night’s event, even from an elevated distance of 30 feet, the aerial view gave way to a rare experience of oneness, as the emotional charge wafted up the stairs.

Walking alongside Rabbi Yosef Kantor, director of Chabad-Lubavitch of Thailand; Rabbi Chaim Mendelsohn of the Canadian Federation of Chabad-Lubavitch; Rabbi Berel Gansbourg of Montreal, Harper described the visit as a show of solidarity and a chance to view first-hand the damage inflicted on the Mumbai center, as well as the resolve of Jewish leaders to continue its activities.
Canadian Minister of International Trade Stockwell Day, who had visited the damaged center once before, accompanied the prime minister on the tour.
“Of all the times that you could have chosen,” Kantor, who led the tour, told Harper, “that you chose now, one year after the attacks, to come and visit, strengthens our courage to move forward.”continue...

NEW CHANUKAH BOOK: The Dreidel's Hidden Meanings
Newly Published for Chanukah... THE DREIDEL'S HIDDEN MEANINGS from Rabbi Yitzchak Ginsburgh
“A very popular Jewish custom is to play dreidel on Chanukah. Adults together with children gather around the lights of the menorah, spinning to discover which letter falls on top.
What is the deeper significance of this act, and what meaningful thoughts can we have in mind while playing dreidel this Chanukah?
As we will see, by spinning the dreidel in front of the Chanukah lights, we are bridging the gap between the finite realm and the infinite.” (6x9 paperback / 41 pages)

Rechovot: Election Choice Still Unclear Upcoming mayoral elections in the Israeli city of Rechovot will prove to be exciting as the chareidi community will probably tip the balance. Chareidim form around 20% of the vote, and among the chareidi community Chabad has the majority, with 1200 votes, followed by Kretschnif with 800.
Usually Rabbi Mendel Gluckowsky, leader of the Chabad community in Rechovot, issues an official position during elections. However, this time he has made no public statements. In the

'Weapons let us down at Chabad' TIMES OF INDIA
MUMBAI: Memories of the tragedy at Nariman House still haunt Isaac Baagwan, the first police officer to reach the spot on 26/11. He regrets his men did not have advanced weapons which would have made their task easier. "All I had was a service pistol. The MRA Marg striking force comprising six policemen arrived with only SLR weapons in half an hour. The terrorists had AK-57s,'' he said.
As firing continued, Baagwan rushed to Colaba
