To Everyone Who Came Out Last Thursday - Thank you so much on behalf of ROC NOLA for your support of our second protest against Tony Moran's last Thursday night! Last week's protest went so well, so we are excited to have just as successful a time with it this coming Thursday! :) So this week's protest is again on Thursday, November 5th @ 8pm. However, we are again asking that people meet before 8pm a few blocks away from the restaurant at the 100 block of Carondelet, just outside of Tiramisu 55 Restaurant. We will also be sending out a schedule of dates by the beginning of next week so that you can know with a little bit more lead time when our upcoming protests are taking place, but our goal is to have one every week (with the exception of holiday weeks) until the owner of Tony Moran's agrees to come to the table. Psychoanalytic Center. 7:30PM. Slavoj Zizek is probably the most widely read psychoanalytic, political and social philosopher on the planet, according to New Orleans analyst, Molly Rothenberg. He is coming to New Orleans to give a free public lecture at Loyola on November 17th Uses and Misuses of Violence. The center would like to offer an introductory evening to help participants become a bit more familiar with this complex thinkers ideas. We will begin with some introductory remarks and view the film Zizek! and then open the floor to reaction and discussion. David ODonaghue, Psy.D. , who has a background in philosophy and psychoanalysis, will tie some of Zizeks ideas into Hegel and the critical theory of the Frankfort School. The work of French analyst Jacques Lacan, is the foundation for much of Zizeks work and we will make an attempt to grapple with some of his ideas as well. This event is cosponsored by the New Orleans Lyceum. The film will screen at 8 p.m. sharp at the Big Tops multi-purpose 1638 Clio Street location. Before and after the screening, beginning at 6 p.m., and running til 10 p.m., the New Orleans Craft Mafias members will showcase their handmade and recycled wares for your early holiday shopping pleasure. The Handmade Nation DVD will be available for purchase from NOCM member Miss Malaprop at the event. (It is also available online at http://www.buyolympia.com/handmade.) Starting in 2006, Levine traveled to 15 cities, logged over 19,000 miles and interviewed more than 80 individuals who are part of a tightly knit crafting community which exists both online through websites, blogs and online stores as well as within local communities around the world in the form of craft fairs, independent boutiques, modern day knitting circles and networking groups like the Craft Mafia. These individuals merge traditional handcrafting techniques with a modern DIY (do it yourself) ethos, combining historical crafting techniques and artisan skills with 21st century aesthetics, punk, politics, feminism and art. Fueled by the common thread of creating, the film explores a burgeoning art community that is based on creativity, determination, and networking. The New Orleans Craft Mafia and Delgado Community Colleges Irma Thomas W.I.S.E.
