- Perform subject analysis for a broad range of academic library material.
- Assign Library of Congress Subject Headings and Medical Headings, as appropriate.
- Assign LC, NLM, and Dewey Decimal Classification numbers, as appropriate, including cutters that, in some cases, are customized for a library’s collection.
- Create YBP Provisional Plus cataloging records using MARC21 format applying AACR2r.
- Review cataloging of peers and provide feedback and training.
- Assist the supervisor in formulating YBP cataloging policy based on national cataloging and classification policy and practice.
- Search LC MARC database and OCLC.
- Match MARC bibliographic records to items being handled on approval and firm order.
- Upgrade Library of Congress CIP records to Full Level as needed.
- Create YBP Provisional and YBP Corrected cataloging records as needed.
All of the above tasks are applied primarily to print books and e-books but include other formats of materials.
- Working knowledge of MARC21 format and AACR2r.
- Experience in subject analysis, preferably in an academic library is a plus, but will train the right person.
- Practical and theoretical knowledge of Dewey and/or LC Classification scheme, with NLM a plus.
- PC and database searching skills (such as OCLC).
- Experience using automated library systems for cataloging or acquisitions is preferred.
- Master’s Degree in Library Science and a minimum of 3 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Perform second level research of continuation bid lists and third level research of continuation transfer lists.
- Verify series title, publisher and determine YBP’s ability to procure.
- Review the status report as generated from the series file for any inconsistencies before mailing to the library.
Qualifications:
- Familiarity with US MARC format, LC database and previous experience with library acquisitions and serials control in an automated environment required.
- PC skills that include the usage of e-mail, navigation of the Internet, preparation of Word documents and Excel spreadsheets.
- Ability to analyze and interpret situations and apply judgment to make decisions.
- Effective written and verbal communication/presentation skills.
