Some 6,500 women members of the Chabad organization, young and old, gathered at the Nokia Stadium in Tel Aviv Thursday evening for a unique conference that included joint prayers, lectures and even a standup comedy show.
The event was held by the N'shei u'Bnos Chabad organization.
The event's organizer Hinda Gerlitzky, Chabad's emissary in Tel Aviv, told Ynet before the event that the convention is aimed at empowering women. "During the conference we will address several issues that are relevant to women, including devoutness and redemption."
Women of all ages, including young girl, began pouring into the stadium Thursday noon. "We are a part of Chabad women's lives since they are young," explained Gerlitzky. "We accompany them as young women… we in fact have 12 departments for women, of all ages and walks of life, and all of them will be represented at the convention."

A Loving Gift for the Children of Southern Israel Thirteen boys from Beersheva and the surrounding area in Israel’s south celebrated their bar mitzvah at a moving ceremony on Thursday.
The ceremony took place at the Golden Tulip Hotel and was organized by Chabad of Beersheva, headed by shliach Rabbi Schneur Zalman Garelik. The event was sponsored by Bris Avrohom of New Jersey, which is run by shliach Rabbi Mordechai Kanelsky.
Present at the event were the chairmen of the board of directors of Bris Avrohom, Dr. Yossi and Feigy Deitsch of Monsey, New York.
Daniel Raykher of New York, a bar mitzvah boy who donated a large amount from his own presents to the children of southern Israel, and his parents Gregory and Dafna Raykher also attended.
Also present were the deputy mayor of Beersheva, representatives of the Absorption Ministry, local shluchim, Rabbi Yossi Slavin, director of the Bar Mitzvah Institute, Rabbi Sholom Ber Garelik of Nachlat Har Chabad, Rabbi Yerachmiel Garelik, shliach in Holon, and Rabbi Avraham Kanelsky of Nachlat Har Chabad.
Music was provided by Rabbi Meir Vorozov and his klezmer band, with the help of a choir of Tmimim from Kiryat Gat.
Mineola synagogue vandalized with swastikas BY KEEGAN CALLIGAN
Rabbi Anchelle Perl wasn't at Congregation Beth Shalom Chabad in Mineola on Friday morning as he usually is, as the temple was closed for the Fourth of July weekend.
Instead, he got a call unlike any he's ever received: Someone had sprayed two large, bright orange swastikas on the synagogue's front doors.
"As soon as I came and saw it was a swastika, I realized this was a bias crime," said Perl, leader of the congregation for the past 20 years.
Perl called the police, who he said responded swiftly. And he got a visit from Nassau Police Commissioner Lawrence Mulvey.
He said he also received supportive calls from state Sen. Craig Johnson and Mineola Mayor Jack Martins.
"This is not just an attack on the Jewish community, this is an attack on people of all faiths," said Johnson's chief of staff, Rafe Lieber. "It is outrageous that such hate-filled acts continue in this day and age. Senator Johnson's thoughts and prayers are with Rabbi Perl and the entire Mineola Chabad congregation."continue...

This, in turn, will "bring salvation and deliverance to the entire world," as the Rambam writes, and will bring about the Redemption. (The Rebbe)

Jews honor memory of rebbe in Cambria Heights By Howard Koplowitz
Traveling from Briarwood to Bangkok, about 50,000 Jews flocked last week to the Cambria Heights grave of Rebbe Menachem Schneerson, the late leader of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement of Hasidic Judaism, on the 15th anniversary of his death.
Lines snaked for hours between Schneerson’s grave and the entrance to the Chabad House on Francis Lewis Boulevard in Cambria Heights during a 24-hour period of mourning from June 24 to 8 p.m. last Thursday.
“It feels like a Grateful Dead concert because people come here from all over the world to gather in the spirit of humany [sic],” said Riverdale, L.I., resident Mark Weitzman of Schneerson’s grave site. “I feel it’s a very holy place.”
Weitzman said his visit marked the sixth time he has visited Schneerson’s grave.
Uni acts on anti-Jewish sentiment on campus NAOMI LEVIN - AJN.COM.AU
LA TROBE University Vice Chancellor Professor Paul Johnson and senior university officials have pledged to make the university campus a more welcoming place for Jewish students.
Prof Johnson, student services director Michael Torney and equity and student support services director Gary Thomas met with Rabbi Yankel Rapp from Merkos on Campus on Monday, June 29.
Rabbi Rapp shared his concerns with the university leaders about aggressive anti-Israel and anti-Jewish sentiment on campus. He said the behaviour of some students demonstrated intolerance and a lack of respect towards their Jewish peers.
The rabbi said Prof Johnson believed students learnt more effectively when they were in a happy and positive environment, and incidents where students burst into lecture halls denouncing the Israeli government and its defence forces were unacceptable. CONTINUE...

Jewish Learning Instructors: Students For A Day Dvora Lakein
(lubavitch.com) For one full day, the teachers became students. Clad in their distinctive black hats and suits, they listened attentively, raised their hands to ask questions, and passed the occasional note (via text-messaging, of course).
The Rohr Jewish Learning Institute’s 11th Annual Conference convened last Wednesday at Polytechnic University in Downtown Brooklyn. Approximately 330 JLI instructors from around the world came to explore upcoming course objectives, discuss marketing strategies, and improve their teaching techniques. It was the rabbis’ turn to sit on the other side of the desk.
The conference presented in-depth analyses of the upcoming classes and how best to teach them. Soulquest, exploring the soul’s journey before, during, and after life, will open the next semester. The six-week course schedule includes discussions on the soul’s origins, its purpose in the world, where it goes after life, and reincarnation. It is, presenters promised Wednesday’s audience, “hands down the most promising course to attract new students and double worldwide enrollment.”
“I have wanted to teach this for the past six years,” divulges Rabbi Sholom Lew of Glendale, Arizona. “I am excited that they have finally created it.” Lew has been teaching JLI courses in Arizona for seven years. He came in especially for the conference, as he does annually, to “get some inspiration, pick up skills, and make our JLI chapter the best it can be.” He has a core class of 20 students each semester, but believes that Soulquest will be particularly appealing as discovery of the soul is the “basis of Judaism.” continue and view pictures...

Montreal: Chabad school in financial crisis By JANICE ARNOLD
MONTREAL — The 68-year-old Rabbinical College of Canada (RCC), the Lubavitcher yeshiva (SNS ED. This is the Cheder), has launched an “emergency” campaign because it is facing a financial crisis.
The school delayed payment of salaries to its approximately 60 teachers as a result of its cash-flow problems, administrator Linda Rosenblum acknowledged.
She said $600,000 is needed to get out of the current crunch.
A combination of factors explains the school’s situation, including the economic downturn, Rosenblum said. Some of the RCC’s traditional supporters have curtailed their donations.
But a turning point was the addition of a third floor two years ago to accommodate growing enrolment.
A million-dollar gift was received for the project, but construction ultimately cost $2.5 million, she said, and the school took out a mortgage.

IDF, Gaza Terrorists Trade Fire by Maayana Miskin
(Israelnationalnews.com) Gaza terrorists fired on IDF soldiers on Thursday evening along the security fence opposite central Gaza. IDF soldiers responded with guns and mortar fire. No soldiers were wounded.
Gaza sources reported that a 17-year-old young woman was killed and 11 others were wounded in the El-Burej and Johar Ad-Dayak area. Earlier reports stated that the deceased was a three-year-old child.
IDF officials said the incident is under investigation. Soldiers did not report hitting any persons, they said.
Relatively few attacks have been reported in the Gaza area since the conclusion of Operation Cast Lead, in which the IDF killed hundreds of Hamas terrorists and destroyed much of the organization's infrastructure in Gaza. However, intermittent attacks have taken place in recent months, including rocket and mortar shell attacks and a recent attempted kidnapping.

The Rebbe's Advice #160 - No burden for the Rebbe Someone wrote the Rebbe the following letter:
“Your kindness accepts my ignorance.
It must be a burden to you to receive my letters. I seek direction. Some of my anxieties come from fragmentation and confusion. I am split in many directions and not accomplishing any of them well.”
The Rebbe responded by circling the words “a burden” and remarked, “G-d forbid rather it is very painful that 1) you find yourself in a situation which is painful, 2) Hashem’s brocha is temporarily being held back from enabling you to have clear direction in your life mitzvos without any doubts whatsoever.”
The Rebbe then circled the words “split in many directions” and wrote, “It is inappropriate (‘split’) because you were born a Jew and that is your essence which cannot be changed. Everything else that happens to you is additional and ancillary to your essence.” Nelcha b’Urchosav, p. 215

The management at Boymelgreen Capital has been given a breather. Yesterday the holders of series B1 and B3 bonds convened and agreed to forgo their demand for immediate repayment of NIS 400 million, at this stage at least.
Company controlling shareholder Shaya Boymelgreen was present at the assembly, as was the company's management.
The bondholders have agreed to try to reach a new arrangement with the company.
The biggest institutional holders of Boymelgreen Capital bonds are Psagot, Analyst and Menorah.
The arrangement, if one ensues, is likely to dilute Boymelgreen's personal holding in the company to the point of losing the controlling interest. At present he owns 90% of its shares.
The Rebbe’s Teachings Spread to Jerusalem Yeshiva Students In 5711, before the first yahrzeit of the Rebbe Rayatz, the Rebbe said the following: “(Those who are talented at this) should visit places where chareidi youth gather …. And explain to them how the Rebbe always had extra love for them, what he demanded from them and the hope and faith that he had in them, that they will eventually fulfill their role in maintaining Yiddishkeit and spreading the Torah with the spirit, warmth, and vitality that young people are able to show.”
Members of the Center for Studying Chassidus in Jerusalem, which is involved in spreading the light of Chabad Chassidus among yeshiva students from other Chassidic groups, believe that they have a particular obligation to fulfill the Rebbe’s directive quoted above.
On Thursday morning, Gimmel Tammuz, the staff of the Center for Studying Chassidus held a series of shiurim for the students of various yeshivos.
During the shiurim, many bochurim wrote letters to the Rebbe that were sent to the Ohel that same day.
A number of farbrengens were also held in various locations that day, the most central of which took place at the Chabad shul in downtown Jerusalem. The keynote speaker was Rabbi Meir Levinger, who discussed the significance of the day and the Rebbe’s belief that every Jew, no matter who he is, will discover the truth at some point in his life.

Grapevine: Being party to the mitzva Greer Fay Cashman, THE JERUSALEM POST
WHEN FORMER president of Poland Lech Walesa paid a visit in January 2008, his entourage included Rabbi Shalom DovBer Stambler, the director of Chabad-Lubavitch in Poland. Stambler invited Walesa to Kfar Chabad where his family is quite influential. Chabad was baking matzot for Passover at the time, and Walesa also tried his hand at rolling the dough. During his stay, Walesa was escorted by Polish Ambassador Agnieszka Magdziak Miszewska, whom the people at Kfar Chabad did not forget. It was not her first encounter with anyone from Chabad. In September 2006 members of the Stambler family came with President Lech Kaczynski on his state visit, and when President Shimon Peres paid an official visit to Poland in April last year, Chabad representatives were invited to various events in which he participated, so she had a chance to see them again.
Last Succot, she was invited to come to the main Succa at Kfar Chabad, and in the course of her visit, was taken on a tour of Ohr Simha, a facility that cares for boys at risk and those from low socioeconomic backgrounds in family style settings in which young Chabad couples with children of their own act as surrogate parents. The ambassador was impressed, and when she learned that 12 of the boys were celebrating their bar mitzva this year and that Chabad was looking for a suitable venue in which to hold the celebration, she spontaneously offered her residence. The offer was taken up with enthusiasm. Last week, Chabad came to the residence in Kfar Shmaryahu and kashered her kitchen. CONTINUE...
Strange Ad Campaign Hits Maariv Every day this week, an advertisement with a picture of the Rebbe Rashab has appeared on the back of the Maariv Israeli daily.
The text of the advert reads:
“Am Yisrael needs to listen to Moshiach. Moshiach already rules over Israel and the world! Moshiach will deal with anyone who profanes the Divine Name and gives away Israeli territory.”
The advertisement also included an Internet site and a mobile phone number.
At first glance, many readers thought that this was an official Chabad ad campaign. But they were very much mistaken. A call to the number revealed that the person who had placed the advertisements was not a Chabad chassid at all, but a rather strange individual who had some interesting interpretations of recent events in the Knesset …

LIVING WITH MOSHIACH #1516 When the Ark is opened before the Torah reading on the festivals, we pray: "May there be realized in us the verse [describing Moshiach] which states, 'The spirit of G-d shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, counsel and strength, knowledge and the fear of G-d.'"
Since within every Jew there is a spark of Moshiach, every Jew can ask that this verse be fulfilled with respect to the spark of Moshiach within his soul.
Thus, this prayer is appropriate for every Jew, regardless of his spiritual standing. (The Rebbe, 5743)(L'CHAIM)

These included Rabbi Yitzchak Yehudah Yuroslavsky, Chief Rabbi of Nachlat Har Chabad, who put up the mezuzah at the main entrance, local Mayor Motti Malka, who also put up a mezuzah, various town councilors, the directors of the Victory chain, a representative of the Eida Hachareidis, friends, and family of the staff.
After the mezuzos had been put up, everyone said a lechaim and Rabbi Yuroslavsky wished the store much future success. He noted that now the local Chabad community can buy mehadrin products from a store run by Chabad Chassidim. The mayor also passed on good wishes from the municipality.
