Scrolling through Jewish history By Kendall Hatch/Daily News staff
NATICK, MA - Members of MetroWest's Jewish community gathered yesterday to celebrate a tradition thousands of years old - the writing of a Sefer Torah scroll.
"We have been doing this for 3,000 years," said Yitzchok Cohen of Natick. "These traditions have been going on for centuries."
About 100 congregants, rabbis from other synagogues and members of the community met at the Chabad Center for the dedication ceremony of the new scroll. Families who had sponsored the writing of a book, section, verse, word or letter of the Torah were called on to assist Rabbi Moshe Klein of New York, the commissioned scribe.
"It's a very proud moment because it's a continuation of the Jewish faith," said Rachel Bornstein, a former congregant at the Chabad Center. "It represents unity. Each letter, each person, each contribution goes to the completion of the Torah."

Chabad School Goes on Strike The PTA at the Chabad school in the southern Israel city of Netivot declared a students’ strike today. The reason for this is that the Education Ministry has decided to reinstate the principal who ran the school for six years even though many parents believe that her mismanagement caused difficulties to the students and badly affected the learning program.
The Education Ministry originally allowed the principal to be transferred elsewhere at the beginning of the year. However, it then reinstated her despite strong objections from the teachers and the parents, who found it impossible to work with her.
The Ministry had even appointed a replacement, who was doing well in her new position, but who may well lose her job.
The Education Ministry does not deny that there are problems, but due to various technical reasons and legal considerations it decided nonetheless to reinstate the former principal.
Lessons will be on strike until a solution is found, enabling the transfer of the principal and the reinstatement of her replacement. (SOURCE; COL.ORG.IL)
The Rebbe's Advice #258 - PRINTING REBBE’S SEFORIM I took half of the leftover money which you sent, and used it for printing and publicizing, sending the yud beis-yud gimmel Tammuz pamphlet all over. I dedicated it anonymously, for the strengthening of hiskashrus. I specially did so because I do not know what is happening with your hiskashrus to the Rebbe (please forgive me for saying so). Reshet Bet Reports on Flourishing Chabad Houses in China On the “Netiv Olami” show, broadcast by the Israeli radio station Reshet Bet, a couple of backpackers spoke about their intention to tour China. They asked if the Chabad Houses there sold kosher food that could be purchased on site.
“Chabad Houses are flourishing in China,” said the show’s presenters.
“I was there on Friday night, exactly a week and a half ago,” said Dr. Chen Baram. “It’s wonderful to see what goes on there. There’s a very energetic Rabbi, who is also very open. There are even a Chabad minyan and a Sephardi minyan over there,” he added.
Halacha of the Day: Lefties and Righties in Halacha (11) Compiled by Rabbi Eliezer Wenger for SHMAIS.com
The Debreciner (Shut Be’eir Moshe Vol. 2,3:19) cites the Minchas Pittim regarding which hand a right-handed person should use when holding items which do not involve the actual performance of a mitzvah, but it is a means to do the mitzvah (hechsher mitzvah), a preparation for the mitzvah, or the like, such as holding the chometz which needs to be burned, the shechita or milah knife or the sand, etc for covering the blood of a chicken (kisu hadam). According to the Minchas Pittim, one would be able to do it with his left hand as well. Nevertheless the Debreciner is of the opinion that the left-handed person should use his left hand. (Although it would appear that he could also use his right hand according to the Minchas Pittim).
When it comes to remove the Tefillin from the head, one should remove it with his left hand to show that they are reluctant to remove their Tefillin. Thus a left-handed individual would use his right hand (which is his weaker hand) to show his reluctance in removing his Tefillin. (Alter Rebbe’s Shulchan Aruch O.C. 28:5)
