Construction on Chabad School in Lod Picks Up Pace Three months ago, construction began on the Beis Menachem school in Ganei Aviv, a suburb of Lod. Work has been moving forward, and the second floor is already under construction.
The school, which is known for its high academic standards, will be housed in a 2,000 sq. meter campus, with 18 classrooms, computer and science labs, and conference halls. The complex will house separate schools for boys and girls, providing a welcome change to the caravans that have been home to these institutions for the past 11 years. The building project was launched by Minister Meshulam Nahari during his tenure as deputy minister under the Shas Party.
Slaughterhouse Worker: Manager Was Incompetent SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) ? A former Iowa kosher slaughterhouse manager accused of defrauding a bank was incompetent and in over his head, a plant employee testified Monday.
Chaim Abrahams, a purchasing manager at Agriprocessors Inc., testified for the defense during Sholom Rubashkin's federal fraud trial in U.S. District Court in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Abrahams, who still works at the Postville, Iowa, plant, also testified that understaffing led to sloppiness in the plant's operation.
Rubashkin is charged with 91 counts of financial fraud. His attorneys argue the alleged fraud at the former Agriprocessors Inc. plant was the result of incompetence, not corruption.
The defense began its case after the prosecution rested Monday morning.

SPECIAL FOR THIS WEEK @ SIMONE'S PLACE "You Will All Be Listening To Him One Day . . ." In Conversation: Dr. David Luchins on The Rebbe
by Dvora Lakein - Chabad Lubavitch Headquarters
Dr. David Luchins is chair of the political science department at Touro College in Manhattan. Luchins, aide to both former Vice-President Hubert Humphrey and New York Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, is a vociferous presence in political and Jewish spheres. He is a national officer for the Jewish Council of Public Affairs (JCPA) and a national vice-president of the Orthodox Union.
A popular speaker at Jewish functions worldwide, Luchins has been selected to present the keynote address at the banquet concluding the 25th annual International Conference of Shluchim. Lubavitch.com spoke with him this week, to discuss his achievements and his connection with the Previous Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneerson, and the Lubavitcher Rebbe.
As a former student of yours at Touro’s Lander College for Women, I remember the large photo of the Rebbe prominently displayed in your office. What is your connection with Chabad? My parents were very close with the Previous Rebbe (also called the Frierdiker Rebbe). My father, who was born in America, was a psychologist teaching at a New York school when the Previous Rebbe arrived here.
In many of the 20 books he published, my father cites a “wise friend,” who is the Frierdiker Rebbe, with whom he often consulted about his work.CONTINUE...
Radio Listener Reports Flood at Herzliya Chabad House During a broadcast on the Kol Berama radio station, a listener from Herzliya called in to say that his local Chabad House was flooded during the recent heavy rain in Israel.
“You can’t go daven there without boots,” he said. “Everything is absolutely flooded at the Chabad House’” Presenter Dudi Schwammenfeld showed his considerable knowledge of the subject when he answered, “The shliach in Herzliya, Rabbi Reli Halperin, is a former commando of the General Staff, so everything will be ok.”
The conversation then moved on to the anti-Chabad campaign in Ramat Aviv. At one point, Schwammenfeld remarked, “Chabad gains its victories through love and embracing others. I think that’s the way and that’s the basis. It should be everyone’s approach.” (SOURCE: COL.ORG.IL)
New Classrooms for Migdal Haemek Yeshiva This morning, the students of Yeshivas Tomchei Tmimim in Migdal Haemek entered new classrooms in their recently built campus.
They were pleased to see how beautiful and spacious the new premises are. “Broadening physical space like this simply leads to broadening our knowledge,” remarked one of the students.
“These classrooms signal the completion of the first stage of construction on the new campus. We hope that by the end of the present academic year, this entire project will have concluded,” principal Rabbi Levi Wilmovsky reported.
Rabbi Wilmovsky added that, “This important project came about in the merit of some very generous donors, and especially Victor Pintschuk, with the help of shliach Rabbi Shmuel Kaminetzky.” (SOURCE COL.ORG.IL)

LIVING WITH MOSHIACH #1617 In time to come, Divinity will be revealed in this world at a level more sublime than the level at which it is revealed in the Higher Garden of Eden. This is why even the loftiest tzadikim [righteous people] such as Avraham and Moshe, whose abode is at the zenith of the Higher Garden of Eden, will become vested in corporeal bodies and will arise at the Resurrection of the Dead. An Alternative Way to Remember Rabin The Eretz Yisrael Movement held an alternative ceremony to remember the memory of murdered Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin – along with 1,000 victims of the Oslo “Peace Process” that he spearheaded during his lifetime.
Emcee Shai Geffen said, “We lit 1,000 candles today in the memory of those who were killed as a result of Oslo, and one candle in the memory of Yitzchak Rabin. We don’t agree to the annual Rabin carnival that takes place every year as a way to incite against the Right.”
Baruch Marzel said, “We don’t think that problems with public issues should be solved with guns, power, and violence, or murder. We don’t kill our political rivals. We need to remember that Rabin did a lot for the State of Israel.”
Rabbi Sholom Dov Wolpo stated, “Rabin’s way was bankrupt. They promised peace and only received blood, fire, and pillars of smoke, and Yizkor in the cemeteries.” (SOURCE: COL.ORG.IL)

Rubashkin to present his side in federal trial By GRANT SCHULTE, gschulte@dmreg.com
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. --- Sholom Rubashkin's lawyers will start calling witnesses as early as today to counter allegations that the former Iowa slaughterhouse manager cheated a bank, laundered money and failed to pay livestock providers on time.
The list of possible defense witnesses includes the plant's former bankruptcy trustee, Joe Sarachek; Postville schools guidance counselor Ron Wahl, who worked extensively with the town's immigrant population; and Aaron Rubashkin, the family patriarch who founded Agriprocessors, Inc. to produce kosher meat.
Sholom Rubashkin also will take the stand on his own behalf, defense lawyer Guy Cook said during opening statements. So might his wife, Leah, and at least one of their 10 children.
His brother, Heshy Rubashkin, who helped run the slaughterhouse, is another likely possibility because lawyers have mentioned his name several times in court.
This morning marks week four of Rubashkin's financial fraud trial in Sioux Falls, S.D. Federal prosecutors are expected to conclude their case today after 10 days, 47 witnesses and scores of internal company records.continue...
