The Rebbe's Advice #254 - REB ZALMAN TEIBEL Enclosed is a kuntres, essay for beis Nisan; please let me know how you were mizake es harabim (gave others an opportunity to benefit from it) with it. It is known from the statement of the Zohar about the advantage of Avrohom over Noach, in that Avrohom prayed for the people of his generation.
Look at this: Avraham was a soul of Atzilus, a spiritual realm, and for whom did he give his time – none other than the people of Sodom and Amora. More so, the people of Sodom and Amora were the antithesis to his personality, chesed and hachnosas orchim. Notwithstanding that, Avrohom looked aside and davened for them.
Needless to say, we, ordinary people whose souls are considered the “heels,” not Atzilus, and the people whom we need to daven for, are souls who are the children of Avrohom, Yitzchok, and Yackov. How much more so that we must think about each Jew, asking ourselves the question, what and how are we doing for them? Any more elaboration is not necessary. Ibid. p. 77

LIVING WITH MOSHIACH #1614 Sukkot is referred to as Chag HaAssif -- the harvest festival. This name also relates to the Jews' gathering together with Ahavat Yisrael [love for one's fellow Jew]. Such gatherings precipitate the ultimate gathering of the Jewish people which will take place at the time of the Redemption. For when division and strife, the cause of the exile, are nullified, the exile itself, the effect, will be nullified. (The Rebbe, Sukkot 5752-1992)

US judge: Russia defaults on Seforim case (AP) WASHINGTON — A federal judge has issued a default order against Russia in a lawsuit seeking to force the country to hand over historic Jewish documents.
Judge Royce Lamberth issued the order after Russia refused to participate in the case.
The lawsuit was brought by members of Chabad-Lubavitch, which follows the teachings of Eastern European rabbis. The group is suing Russia in U.S. court to recover thousands of manuscripts and other work by leading rabbis dating back to the 18th century.
Russia has said it will not participate in the case to protect its sovereignty.
With the default order, Chabad can now seek legal action against Russia. It was not immediately clear what actions the court might take to try to force Russia to comply.

Judge in Rubashkin case refuses to order mistrial Sioux Falls, S.D. — Attorneys for former Agriprocessors executive Sholom Rubashkin twice filed motions for a mistrial Wednesday after a key government witness divulged details of illegal immigrants working at the company.
U.S. District Judge Linda Reade rejected the motions, allowing the trial to proceed.
Defense lawyer Guy Cook argued that testimony about the alleged hiring and harboring of illegal immigrants at the northeast Iowa meat plant would result in the bank fraud case suffering a "death by a thousand cuts."
Defense attorneys took exception to the amount of details allowed, because Reade had split the trial into two parts.
