Under the supervision of the Gallery Keeper, the Assistant Keeper will assist with the installation of exhibitions, develop and deliver statewide educational programs for both broad and targeted audiences, give guided tours of the Gallery, and help organize various promotional and outreach activities. The Assistant Keeper will maintain Gallery web pages and plan and help implement the expansion of the Gallery’s online presence, including the creation of online exhibits. Smith Reynolds Library is comprised of approximately 60,000 monographs and over 500 manuscript collections that support teaching and research in literature, history, art, and other humanities. Archival collections document Wake Forest University’s history from its founding in 1834. This position involves planning and organizing the cataloging of library materials, determining the classification of materials into proper groups, and supervising the work of the technical services clerk. This position also involves selecting non-fiction and reference books for the library and its affiliated library branches. Work is performed independently after conference with the Director on broad outline of plans, and is evaluated by observation and by the general smooth functioning and flow of books and other Library materials from source to patron.
Performs descriptive cataloging and assigns classification numbers and subject headings to books not already processed by jobber or otherwise not having acceptable cataloging copy. Is responsible for records of acquisitions and withdrawals. Reviews fully processed books to insure correctness and completeness of processing. Develops and maintains procedures to insure rapid and efficient handling of materials. Researches and utilizes, where appropriate, new technology in cataloging, classification, and related areas. Performs work related to technical services as required. Answers reference questions, locates materials, suggests sources in other libraries, and aids staff with difficult questions. Participates in public service work including circulation and reference as needed. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: ALA-accredited MLS. Three or more years of full-time work experience in a library, archives, museum, or other cultural repository with significant experience and accomplishments involving digitization of library, archival, or museum materials. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with curatorial, digitization, public services, and conservation staff. Commitment to promoting cooperative working relationships between/among multiple repositories. Excellent communication skills. Supervisory experience.
Preferred: Project management experience. Knowledge of North Carolina history, literature, and culture. Knowledge of CONTENTdm and website development.
DUTIES:
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Library seeks an experienced, creative, and collaborative individual for the position of Program Coordinator for the North Carolina Digital Heritage Center. This new position will have responsibility for general management of a center that will provide digitization and hosting services for cultural heritage materials held by libraries, archives, historical societies, and other institutions in the state of North Carolina. Housed in the North Carolina Collection at the University of North Carolina Library, the Center will provide broad and integrated access to digital representatives of these materials to the citizens of the state of North Carolina and to teachers, students, and researchers across the state and beyond.
The Program Coordinator will report to the Curator of the North Carolina Collection and will work closely with the Curator and the Center's Advisory Board in establishing priorities and work flow plans for digitization projects and initiatives. The Program Coordinator will develop collaborative relationships with institutions throughout the state and will facilitate discussions of potential digitization projects and initiatives. The Coordinator will also prepare budgets and monitor expenditures; prepare grants applications and reports; and publicize and promote the plans and accomplishments of the Center. Additionally, the Program Coordinator will be responsible for planning and supervising the work of a Project Management Librarian and, when available, supplementary staff, including student assistants. Travel, including occasional overnight trips will be required.
