Latest review: Sunnyvale Rhyl, ConwyWalesUK
REVIEW BY: A millar - July 2014
Kimmel Bay is a beautiful location well served by camping and caravan parks. It is a great location for exploring north Wales and Snowdonia national park. Do yourself a favour and base yourself in any other camp site but Sunnyvale. The campsite is a concrete jungle with no atmosphere. Very little grass and feels as though your holidaying in a car park. While my kids were playing in the play park, It was nice to hear children speaking their native welsh language. Unfortunately they only spoke to my wife and children in English when they told them to F**k off. My sons skooter was stole from the decking area outside our van. The on site security were responsive and retrieved the skooter from a welsh kids on the site. Our gas supply was turned off in the night by the same people. Reported to staff at reception and they were apathetic and weren't interested. At the end of our two weeks I witnessed a bike being stolen from a neighbouring van. Again the site staff were uninterested and I assume its because its a common occurrence. There is a Fish and Chip shop on site. The quality of food was disgusting. The shop and club opened when they felt like it. You have to pay £50 deposit on arrival but on departure they have no one to check the van and you leave £50 out of pocket. They promise to call you and refund it on a card later. What if you don't have a card or need the £ for fuel to get home. My family didn't feel welcome at Sunnyvale and wouldnt recomend it. The staff were unhelpful and aloof.

Latest review: Auchenlarie, Gatehouse of Fleet
REVIEW BY: A Boyd - July 2014
We have really enjoyed another holiday at Auchenlarie for the fourth year in a row!! The park is located in an idyllic setting and we've had fun on the beautiful beaches and coves. Being so close to local towns has meant that we have been able to visit many nearby places too! We have stayed in another static caravan and as always it has been clean, tidy and well maintained and ideal for a family. This year there was no information pack which was easily remedied by visiting the staff at the office on site. However, we did send our teenage son to enquire, and on returning to the caravan he was deflated having felt his request had not been met with the same respect that would be given to an adult. We encourage our children to develop their independence and we were disappointed that he was left feeling this way.
Only other negative to report this year was the litter in the park and people who had allowed their dogs to fowl and had not picked it up, even though there is designated areas to get rid of same. Disappointing that people can not be more responsible, especially as children are playing. Also with changes to the laundry facilities on site, really felt that for families the cost for washing and drying of clothes was pricey compared to previous years.
Ending on a positive note, the shop was very reasonably priced on site, and the staff were friendly. The play park facilities and recycling facilities were also excellent this year. We were impressed with the changes made to the pool facilities on site, particularly family changing and better lockers.
Thanks again for another great holiday.

Drab and very dated hotel. Most uncomfortable beds you could ever try to sleep on. Food average, with the same breakfast choice every day. Dinner not much better. I wiuld recommend this place to no one - ever.

REVIEW BY: J Pilling - June 2014
Accomodation was fairly clean but upkeep through the week was sketchy. Basically the bins were emptied and that was all.
The shower room was tiny so that you had your knees tucked under the sink whilst on the toilet. We also had a rusty soap dish in the shower which left bits of rust in the tray, it fell off on the third day leaving a mess of rust. We cleaned it up and reported this to Irene and that it had left a dangerously sharp rusty piece of metal sticking out. Nothing was done about it, we improvised and covered it with several layers of sticking plaster as a temporary measure but still nothing was done.
This was room 5 so please be careful.

this was our 8th visit to this hotel.Every year we go it has been the same bar staff/resteraunt staff and cleaners. The entertainment teams tend to be different every year the first three times we went the entertainment was very good but now poor entertainment but we dont stay in the hotel at night even though we go all inclusive. It is a very friendly hotel the staff are brilliant.I wasnt happy having to pay for wifi it was 5euro per day or 3 days for 10euro or the full 7 days is 20 euros so as we always go for 10 nights it cost me 30 euros,It is a lovely steady walk into es cana and the nearest beach is a 5 minute walk away and that is me using my stick. The bars in Es cana are nice a bit of everything for everyone alas our 3 favourite bars have bingo between the entertainment;Popeyes bar is end of the road with different singers/comedy every night however it is the same year in year out and as we have seen them lotds of times before it is the same jokes same songs ect.Rio bar has bingo/quiz/karoke between these two bars is bar2tt a small spanish bar best cup of tea in es cana and cheapest. He also sells english beers.Going into the centre of Es cana The vista al mar is by far our favourite bar The owner Sue is so friendly and although it is 1 game of bingo followed by a quiz and one more game of bingo it is very entertaining.I dont know where she gets the saying of the numbers its a good job there is a tv screen with the numbers on.IEend of my foot a toe 80 and a large person with a duck 82 haha. The red lion is karoke and only 60s music a small pub which we find clicky with ex pats.Moes bar is sports bar nice beer and friendly.Charlies bar has tribute acts on every night but the boring bingo. The Nags Head is a great bar no entertainment but a pleasnat pub and a nice pool and sunbed area at the back.If you like cocktails the APACHE bar oposite the bus station is buy one get one free all day and night three menus full of cocktails and friendly staff. The Montemara bar is a good place to watch football and play pool dutch bar but good selection of uk beers.Grannys bar is down loads of steps like a cellar it is advertised outside the hippy market as a night club but its not been open when we pass at midnight. There is a small fair too by the bus station more for younger children.I will be returning again later in the year and have already booked for may 2015 we are over 60.
Latest review: Strathyre Forest, PerthshireScotland
REVIEW BY: M Fraser - May 2014
This was my 3rd stay at Strathyre site of Forest Holidays, My first stay was in May 2013 where my expectations were met in every way. My second stay was fine though a couple of things were not to my satisfaction in a Silver Birch log cabin so I only book a Golden Oak from now on. On my first stay last year in a Golden Oak everything was as described, lovely white long fluffy robes, 2 supplied for master bedroom with lovely ensuite. However this year, same cabin, one year later, dreadful robe, only one supplied, I had to ask for another, also had no waist tie on it and was discoloured and tattie, I couldn't use it and wished I had brought my own robe from home. No pictures on walls this time, last year there was a lovely picture on wall of the loch and mountains which was attractive and useful. This year the furniture had changed, I preferred the fabric sofas, now it is faux leather and less of them for seating my guests, there was what looked like an old folks home chair in lounge on arrival, I called reception and asked for it to be removed and another 2 seater delivered, there was no mirror on wall in mater suite, so I asked for one to be delivered, the toilet roll holder was missing the roll bar in en suite so I had to ask for one to be delivered, there was no tea pot which was a shame as I love to make pots of tea. The vertical blinds in the mater suite are dreadful, missing slats and they don't pull at all, if you try to pull them they all fall off so I had to constantly get up on a stool and keep refitting the slats, not what I wanted to be doing on my holidays and when paying premium price. I contacted the site manager and he came and fixed the blinds as best he could but this was after we had checked out of that cabin. On the bath in Cabin 20 (it has been like this for a year) there is a missing silver cap on the drain so a person can see a brass type bar with mould on it, not very attractive and not hygienic for my toddler nephews baths. Some of the towels we had were of poor quality with tears right through them which I could put my fist through, I also reported this to staff, no new towels were delivered. The fitted sheet on the double bed of master bedroom was bobbled and looked old, I told staff and they delivered another sheet which we had to fit ourselves. The upstairs child lock on the bedroom window had been deactivated and the window wide open, very scary as my 3.5yo toddler nephew ran towards the window !!!! I had to tell management and they came and fixed the window lock to a secure child proof position. You would think when they know a child is checking in all these things would be taken care of. There were discoloured stains on the cream radiators, obviously from other guests laying wet coloured items on the radiators, would be nice if the stains could be removed. I extended my holiday before I had arrived on site, when date came to move to another cabin, we were told we would be moved to cabin 1 which was a long way from cabin 20 where we were already settled. We walked down to check out cabin one, which to my horror
looked on to storage / waste sheds down at reception, I would rather have packed up and gone home than moved to cabin one. So we were then given an alternative to move to cabin 17 which was in front of the cabin we were already in, so this is what we did, however it took us an evening and an entire morning to make the move with all the stuff we had including our fridge food, toddler and two dogs, so we had a wasted day with rectifying nearly everything and the move we had to make. The management changed while we were on site, it seemed to me that things had been run down since my two previous stays in 2013. I have booked again for September 2014 simply because the walks are great for the dogs and my nephew loves going out on the bikes with him in the bike buggie, this was the highlight of our holiday, the bike rides with the dogs running along side. The hot tub is great but a wipe over of the lid of tub and brush down of cobwebs would be nice before guests check in. I had to do this myself. Also a huge clump of stinging nettles at door entrance was not good for my young nephew, so we had to ask staff to come and strim the nasty weeds to avoid accident, which staff kindly did, but should have been taken care of before we checked in to cabin 17, where there was no toaster so we had to ask staff to bring one. The number of times I contacted staff during my so called relaxing break was far too often. Hopefully the new management can
shake things up and make improvements so that guests who are paying premium rate do not have to waste valuable time on their holiday rectifying issues that should not exist. Oh I forgot to mention, in cabin 17 Golden Oak, there were no bedside cabinets, so I also had to call staff again and ask them to deliver the cabinets that should have been there in first place, the lamps were on the floor which looked ridiculous. Also in cabin 17 the wardrobe in upstairs bedroom has missing double doors on it with hinges showing, not nice at all and could not be rectified whilst we were there. There is no oven glove supplied, I burnt my thumb twice and set fire to a tea towel, not very good or safe for guests. You need to bring everything apart from the kitchen sink when staying at these cabins so please be aware as only the very basics are supplied. Hand towels in the bathrooms of Golden Oak cabins are not supplied either. I contacted the temporary site manager a couple of days ago when booking my next Dog holiday and pointed out once more all the issues I had, I was given a substantial discount towards my next holiday at Strathyre in September which is fine, I truly hope I am not disappointed in any way upon arrival to my Golden Oak in September 2014. Overall the experience of my May 2014 holiday has not put me off but I am keeping a watchful eye on detail as I pay premium price for this holiday. As a ps, my nephew enjoyed his Ranger adventure with Jack Black the forest ranger, it was at the cost of £8, unfortunately he was the only kid on the adventure. Maybe next time there will be more kids. the children's play area at Strathyre is no good for under 5's. There is a lack of facilities for under 5's so be aware of this especially on the rainy days where you will have to go further afield into Callander to the MacLaren Sports Centre where there is a really nice soft play and swimming pool. Bikes at site which you can hire are very good and the bike ride on or buggie for youngsters is excellent.
