This clinical guideline has been produced under the auspices of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Faculty of Dental Surgery's Clinical Effectiveness Committee whose role is to promote clinical effectiveness across all clinical specialties. The guidelines are designed to outline the use of pulp therapy for primary molars. They cover treatment planning, and treatment options including indirect pulp treatment, direct pulp capping, pulpotomy, desensitising pulp therapy, and pulpectomy. The recommendations have been graded according to the Scottish Intercollegiate Guideline Network (SIGN) classification system in order to indicate whether they are based on proven scientific evidence or currently accepted good clinical practice with limited scientific evidence.
