LSE Library (also known as the British Library of Political & Economic Science) is the Library of the London School of Economics and Political Science and one of the largest libraries in the world devoted to the economic and social sciences. This is its free access photostream which is made available on the Internet via Flickr. It offers free access to 100s of photographs from the LSE archives. These include images of the LSE founders, famous LSE staff, students and guest visitors. The latter include many heads of state and famous guest lecturers at the LSE from the 1930s onwards. This site forms part of the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) digital archive collection. It provides free access to an online library of more than 10,000 images relating to the work of a professor of anthropology at SOAS, Christoph von Fürer-Haimendorf (1909-1995), who studied tribal cultures in South Asia and the Himalayas from the 1930s to the 1980s. They include rare photographs of the textiles and jewellery of the Nagas, Sherpas and the shamans and rituals of the Apatani tribe. The site also includes biographical information about professor Fürer-Haimendorf, background information on the region, plus bibliographies to guide further research. DAMOCLES (Developing Arctic Modeling and Observing Capabilities for Long-term Environmental Studies) is an integrated ice-atmosphere-ocean monitoring and forecasting system designed for observing, understanding and quantifying climate changes in the Arctic which is financed by the European Union in the 6th Framework programme. The DAMOCLES consortium comprises 48 institutions from 13 countries. DAMOCLES is specifically concerned with the potential for a significantly reduced sea ice cover, and the impacts this might have on the environment and on human activities, both regionally and globally. This is the technical website for the European Space Agency (ESA) Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) mission, launched on 2 November 2009 with a minimum three year duration. SMOS is using an interferometric radiometer to measure microwave radiation emitted from Earth's surface within the L-band (1.4 GHz) in order to determine soil moisture over the Earth's landmasses and salinity over the oceans. Whilst these are primarily aimed at Ohio's agronomic crop industry, the fact sheets, research publications and reviews have a wider potential use, and are validated by the university's academic and research personnel.
