Donald Olson Dies It was found out that Donald Olson died on September 5, 2011 in Jamestown, New York. He wrote many short stories for Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine. "Screams and Echoes" (EQMM, August 1974) and "A Token of Appreciation" (AHMM, June 1981) were nominated for the short story Edgar, He was reported to published six novels including A DRAM OF EVIL (Award, 1967; as by D.J. Bill Granger Dies Bill Granger died on April 22 at the Manteno Veterans Home in Manteno, Illinois. The former newspaperman wrote THE NOVEMBER MAN (Gold Medal, 1979), an espionage novel featuring intelligence agent Devereaux, code name November Man. His second novel, PUBLIC MURDERS (Jove, 1980), a police procedural featuring Chicago detective Terry Flynn, won an Edgar Award in the paperback original novel. He wrote the second and third Terry Flynn novels -- PRIESTLY MURDERS (Holt 1984) and NEWSPAPER MURDERS (Holt, 1985) respectively -- under the Joe Gash pseudonym, but from the fouth Flynn novel, THE EL MURDERS (Holt, 1987) he returned to the Granger byline. He also authored three Jimmy Drover novels about a forcibly retired newspaperman starting DROVER (Morrow, 1991). He used the Bill Griffith pen-name to write TIME FOR FRANKIE COOLIN (Random, 1982). Mark Gotbaum Dies Mark Gotbaum died on March 29 at his home in New York City. He was an artist, and cartoonist, who contribute the covert art for Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine in the 80's with an unproportionally big head of Hitch. Your can see his covers . He was 69. (April 16, 2012) died from complications of cancer in La Jolla, California on February 22. The former ad axecutive wrote his first novel, THE HEISTERS, in 1963 from Monarch Books, which was made into the 1967 film, "That Man George," starring George Hamilton and Claudette Auger. He wrote several other novels such as WINE OF THE GENERALS (Jove, 1978) and THE MAN WHO KILLED HITLER (Jove, 1980) as well as nine short stories for here
Roger Caron Dies Roger Caron, former bank robber, died on April 11 at a nursing home in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada. He wrote G0-BOY!, a prison memoir, which became a national bestseller and won the Governor General's Award in 1977. After his parole in 1978, he wrote BINGO, about the 1971 riot at the Kinston Penitentiary, but it was not so successful as the first book. His Parkinson's disease and the pressure to write a better book drove him to snorting cocaine and to robbing banks again. He wrote two crime novels: JOJO (Stoddart, 1988), about a half-breed Indian who escapes from an American prison to Canada; and DREAMCAPER (Stoddart, 1992), set in the 70's Montreal. He was 73.
