I'm having a problem where every comment I try and give to help someone will get marked as spam if it's got a URL in it. This made it rather difficult when attempting to help someone get Java installed. Just today, I was attempting to help someone else with a problem with watching a DVD, and any reference to a path statement for their DVD player would trigger the spam filter.
I want to be active, and help other folks, because this group has been awesome and helped me, but if I'm unable to actually post, it makes things rather difficult. So, um. Help?

I have a Toshiba Satellite C655D, running Ubuntu 10.10 (and Windows 7, but I almost never boot that). The DVD drive isn't working, so I use a Rosewill external drive for movies. Unfortunately, two Netflixed discs of Thor won't play!
The funny thing is, Ubuntu's definitely reading that the DVD is there, as it shows up on my desktop as usual. VLC's set to open and play the menu automatically; it opens, pauses for a moment to read the disc, then completely quits. Movie Player does the same thing. AcidRip doesn't recognize that there's a disc in the drive (I have to manually set it to read the external drive, but that hasn't caused a problem in the past). The disc itself looks to be in perfect shape.
Any ideas on why this is happening and how to fix it?

The Tennessee Valley Arabian Horse Association will be holding a fun/training show on June 2nd, at the Alabama A&M's Agribition Center, in Huntsville, AL. All breeds and disciplines are welcome! We will have halter classes for Arabians, stock and color breeds, sport horse in hand and under saddle, hunt, western, and trail classes.- Current Mood:

Keeping the focus on fun, there are even a lot of free classes for the little ones. Things like stick horse, doggie dress up, and the undie race don't even require a horse.
If you have a horse you wish to enter, it is only $7 per class. It is free to watch, and spectators are welcome!

oh dear. I realized I sent my more liberal work to the writer's workshop which is more conservative, and my conservative story to the one which is ultra-liberal. Should be interesting.
Of course this all had to do with one being a novel and the other accepting short stories.

- , our touring behemoth Dodge, is currently at a master mechanic getting some TLC for the long trek up to World Steam Expo in Dearborn, MI. I took the repairs as far as I was able, replacing electrical parts, the front end idler, a fuel injector, and a steering pump hose, but the mechanic is completing the job with the transmission fluid and filter, cleaning the rest of the fuel injectors, and changing the throttle body gasket. Hopefully she'll be purring like an overpowered kitten when we pull out of New Orleans on Tuesday!This offshoot of the band shows great promise at getting its own little life in the sun (well, it certainly will be easier to perform in the sun with this group!) I may have to start booking it separately; it really feels like an entirely different band despite most of the music being SO STRANGELY FAMILIAR. It's CERTAINLY easier to road, although somehow, the costume requirements are MUCH worse. And somehow, I've created an acoustic band that STILL needs to be plugged in, but hey, when did I ever make it easy on myself? continues to receive minor improvements at this point - I'm out of low amperage pinball coils to add more drums and cymbals to the contraption, but as it stands I have the bass drum, two on the snare, a ride cymbal, a splash crash (new 8" Wuhan I bought for the occasion), and the hi hat fully operational. I actually have two more solid state relays that aren't even being used but no time to add them. Last minute addition is a controlled motor that makes the 'clockwork crank' on the bass drum turn while the music is playing, like a giant wind-up music box.
