Kill Creek Park Trail ClearingOctober 10 and October 18 Two dates have been chosen for the autumn trail work on Kill Creek Park's hiking trails. Saturday, October 10 at 1:15 PM - park in Lot 1 and we will cover the north trails. Sunday, October 18 at 1:15 PM - park in the boat ramp lot and we will cover the south trails. Bring water and snacks if you wish. The work normally takes about three hours. I should have all the tools we will need; loppers and saw. Take K-10 west to the Kill Creek Exit. Go south on Kill Creek, west on 115th, south on Homestead. Contact: Dave at dbrackey@tb-engr.com or 913.541.0581 for info, or to sign up Day Hike at Monkey Mountain November 7 - 11am Monkey Mountain offers wooded trails along streams, steep rolling hills and open meadows. As it is fairly rugged, boots are suggested. We'll hike at least 3 miles. (Water is not available.) Afterward, we'll have lunch in Oak Grove. Carpool: at 10 AM from east parking lot at the Clarion Hotel (Blue Ridge Cut Off.) Directions: Take I-70 to the Grain Valley exit and go south on Buckner Tarsney Rd. about a mile to RD Mize Rd. Turn east on RD Mize and go about .5-mile to the entrance on the left side of the road. Contact: Kathy at 816.587.0801 Perry Lake Hiking Trail Clearing November 14 - 8am Our next day at Perry Lake this fall is Saturday November 14 and will likely be a joint event with the Sierra club. The actual work area has not been chosen yet. Anticipate leaving KC about 8 am and returning in late afternoon. Carpools can be arranged since Perry is about 15 miles northwest of Lawrence. I have most tools, but if you have a lopper you are attached to, you can bring it. Bring water and lunch. I expect to have the usual mega-calorie breakfast at the IHOP located at Shawnee Mission Parkway and Antioch at about 7 am. Pack a lunch if you plan to spend the entire day. It's likely we'll be working indoors. Meet at 1423 E Linwood Blvd, KCMO 64109. We will carpool to the work site. Early RSVP's are urged. Contact: Lee ASAP at 816.361.7073 Lights on the Plaza Walk December 5 - 3:30pm Enjoy a brisk walk through the Country Club Plaza and surrounding neighborhoods. The walk is a 10K event officially sanctioned by the American Volkssporting Association (AVA). Start point will be the lobby of the All Souls Unitarian-Universalist Church, 4501 Walnut, Kansas City, MO. The church is located one block off of Main across from the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. Please arrive early to register for the walk. Most of the walk will be centered in the Country Plaza area, which is a virtual outdoor museum of Spanish architecture and European art. Walkers will enjoy the Christmas lights which should be lighted toward the end of the walk. The walk will also go through Westport, the Art Institute, and past the Kaufman Gardens. This group walk will be held in conjunction with the walk sponsored by the Clay-Platte Trackers of Kansas City.
