Hill Climbing HikeSeptember 10 - 9am This weekday hike will entail walking fairly strenuous hills on a paved trail from Midland Drive, south. Lynda will lead you back after 4 miles. Julie will continue around the loop behind Shawnee Mission Park and back - about 6 miles. Pack water and snacks for a streamside break. From I-435, head west on Shawnee Mission Parkway. Turn south at the Midland Drive Access and wind around to a hidden, but well-marked trailhead parking lot. We have the mowers, I need a few volunteers to perform the "push a mower through 3-foot tall weeds" ballet. It wonât be pretty--but views of the lake are great! Anticipate leaving KC about 8 AM and returning in late afternoon. Carpools can be arranged since Perry is about 15 miles northwest of Lawrence. I have most tools, but if you have a lopper you are attached to, you can bring it. Bring water and lunch. I expect to have the usual mega-calorie breakfast at the IHOP located at Shawnee Mission Parkway and Antioch at about 7 AM. Please RSVP. We'll prepare and sample several entrees from breakfast to dinner items and you'll make a meal to take on your next backpacking trip. After our food preparation and sampling, we'll cap the evening with a walk on the Kansas River levee. This class is open to 9 people and the cost for food is $5. To reserve your spot and receive directions for the location in Lawrence, KS, please email Lynne.
