Tuesday Night Bike Rides6:45pm Each Tuesday evening in June we'll take a ride on one of the many paved bike paths in the area. Our first ride will be June 2. We'll begin at Roe Park (south of 103rd & Roe) and bike for two hours. Please arrive promptly at 6:45 with your bike, helmet, and water. Future Tuesday rides will be announced in the weekly e-mail updates. Helmets strongly suggested. We will ride south to the Mahaffie Farm. Contact: Mike at at 816.942.0711 Bike the Little Blue RiverJune 14 - 11:30am Lets celebrate Flag Day by riding the Little Blue River trail. It is an in and out trail totaling 22 miles. You can turn around and return at any point. Dress up in your Red, White and Blue outfits, bring water and your helmet for a fun time. We'll eat at O'Charley's after the ride. If you want to walk while we ride and eat with us afterwards, the ride is expected to last about 3 hours. Directions: Take I-70 East to the Little Blue Parkway (Exit 17 - the 1st exit past 291 hwy) and turn left. The parking lot for the trail is on the right side of the road within sight of the interstate. We will combine part of Shawnee Mission Park's north equestrian trail and part of the north hike/bike trail. We will start on mowed grass and asphalt trails and finish on them as well. The total is about 4 miles. We will go slow so we can see some deer. After the hike we will head to Callahan's on 87th Street for an informal lunch on the patio. Directions: From I-435, exit in Lenexa (KS) at 87th St. and go west to the first traffic light (Renner Rd). Take Renner one mile north to the park entrance (79th) and follow the road to the right past the main buildings to the first big public parking lot (south of Small Lakes). Contact: Tom at TomKutscher@aol.com June 21 - 3:30pm (Please note time adjustment from 3pm) This year, the annual picnic will be held at Antioch Park in Johnson County. We have reserved Shelter #4. Please bring a dish to share. The club will cover the cost of the shelter, tableware and beverages. The park has lovely gardens and a paved walking trail of about a mile. Walk Historic Cliff DriveJuly 5 - 1pm I'll coordinate two Walk and Talk programs sponsored by the Kansas City Museum. Let's meet prior to 1 PM at the Museum Visitor Center to take a nature walk along Cliff Drive and learn about its unique geological features from Matt Christopher, Science City Educator. This will last an hour and we can hike more along Cliff Drive (Car Free Weekend) for another hour if we wish. Afterward we'll grab an early bite to eat at a City Market restaurant. I will need a head count for the museum and for those who wish to join us at the restaurant. Please RSVP by July 2. Directions: 3218 Gladstone Blvd., Kansas City, MO, 64123. The museum is located at the corner of Benton and Gladstone Boulevards, right next to a main entrance for the Cliff Drive State Scenic Byway. The visitor center is around the back on the north side. We have the main shelter off the circular driveway on Wornall. Our hero and club member, Bob Thomas, will once again grill pancakes for the group. Please bring fruit, pastries, sausage, bacon, eggs, juice or anything else you'd like to share. The club will cover the cost of the shelter, tableware and coffee. Loose park has a beautiful rose garden and a paved path of about a mile. The park is located south of the Plaza between 51st and 55th on Wornall. Led by Mike Bushnell, author, Historic Postcards from Old Kansas City. The museum would like a head count for this outing, so please RSVP.
