... 4th coldest and 4th wettest October on record at La Crosse WI... The average temperature for the month was 44.5 degrees which was
was 6.1 degrees below normal. This ranks as the 4th coldest
October on record. The average high was 51 degrees... while the
average low was 38 degrees. The highest temperature was 69 degrees
on the 19th while the lowest reading was 26 degrees... which occurred
on the 11th.
La Crosse received 5.67 inches of precipitation during the month
of October which was 3.51 inches above normal. This ranks it as
the 4th wettest October on record. The greatest 24-hour
precipitation amount was 1.67 inches that fell from the 21-22nd.
There was 0.4 inches of snowfall during the month... and that was
0.2 above normal.

A series of northern stream systems kept temperatures well below
normal during the month... especially during the first half. In fact
every day through the 18th was below normal... with the 19th having
the first day with an above normal temperature. In total only 6 days
of the month recorded an above normal temperature. Several systems
were also able to tap into Gulf moisture and that brought significant
rain to the area... especially on days 21 to 23 when 2.85 inches of
precipitation fell.
... Looking ahead to November...
The average temperature for the month is 35.5 degrees... with an
average high of 43.6 degrees and an average low of 27.4 degrees. The
normal high drops from 52 degrees on the 1st... to 36 degrees by the
30th. The normal low drops from 34 degrees on the 1st... to a 21
degrees reading by the 30th. The average daily temperature drops
below freezing by the 24th. Normal precipitation for November is 2.10
inches. Normal snowfall is 4.4 inches and November averages 1 day
with an inch or more of snowfall.
