1931 Death
of Dave Gardner, 58. (1899-1902)
1951 Derek Fazackerley born, Preston.(1990-95)
As a player, "Faz" was a
Blackburn Rovers stalwart, racking up over 600
appearances between 1969 and 1987, before moving on to
take up a player/coach role at Chester City.
That was followed by a similar role at York City -
working under manager Bobby Saxton - and then at Bury,
before briefly joining non -league side Darwen.
Derek then turned up next in charge of Kumu in
Finland, before returning to England in October 1990,
when brought to SJP by Jim Smith (whom he'd played
under at Ewood).
Remaining in post while Ossie Ardiles was in charge,
Faz also worked under Kevin Keegan
Departing early in the 1995/96 season after expressing
a wish to relocate back to his native Lancashire, Faz
returned to Blackburn Rovers.
After being reunited with Kevin Keegan (and Arthur
Cox) on the England coaching staff, Faz coached at
both Bolton Wanderers and Barnsley - before KK came
calling again.
Joining the Manchester City coaching staff , later
working under Stuart Pearce during his time in
charge.
2008 saw Faz leave Manchester City soon after the
arrival of Mark Hughes, joining former Magpie Lee
Clark's coaching staff at Huddersfield Town soon
after.

play at Burnden Park and hit his eleventh goal of the
season.1949 former Magpies on the goal trail today
included Charlie Wayman, who hit a hat trick in
Southampton's 5-0 home victory over Hull City.
Geordie Stobbart meanwhile went one better, netting four
times in just 10 minutes for Luton Town in a 5-2 win
against Blackburn Rovers.

Bennett, Pop Robson netting the resultant penalty to earn United a point.Recent signing Wyn Davies came close to grabbing a winner for United,
hitting the crossbar with a header. And there was a rare start for winger Geoff
Allen, playing his first game in the top flight.

31,660Malcolm Macdonald's Cottagers side were looking
for a third successive victory at SJP, but one of the most entertaining games of
the promotion season though ended in a home win.
That hardly looked likely with just three minutes to play, but substitute David
Mills drove home at the Leazes End to level the scores, before Kenny Wharton
forced the ball over the line in added time, amid great celebrations.

Colin Suggett - and he couldn't even blame the infamous
plastic pitch at Loftus Road, which had been ripped up the

Future Mags Kevin Brock, Wayne Fereday and Gavin
Maguire all appeared for the home side, who were managed
by Jim Smith. Within a month he'd be installed as
Newcastle boss 1994
Queens Park Rangers (h) 2-1 (2-0)Kitson(20), Beardsley(42) Dichio(60)
34,278After the midweek UEFA Cup exit in Bilbao,
United enjoyed home comforts at SJP, thanks to goals from a new-look front
pairing.
Peter Beardsley's exquisite bicycle kick put the Magpies ahead, before he jumped
over Paul Kitson's shot - as the recent arrival struck his first league goal for the
club.
Rangers looked a better prospect in the second half when Gerry Francis
introduced Danny Dichio to the attack, alongside Les Ferdinand.

Kenny Dalglish unable to name an orthodox striker in his
starting XI.
Forward duties were shared between Barnes, Ketsbaia,
Tomasson and Gillespie - with no striking options on the
subs bench.
2003 An inexperienced reserve side came unstuck at an almost-deserted St.Andrews, going down 3-1 to a Birmingham side that included
seven first-teamers. Andy Ferrell got United's goal with his
side already two down.
2005 Birmingham
City (h)(0-0)Emre(78)
52,191 Emre's effort made it
four straight wins in a row, with the Turkish midfielder
the SJP hero again - following his winner against the mackems
last time out.
It was a day when the
result certainly outweighed the performance as we made
hard work of seeing off Steve Bruce's struggling Blues, who had hit a
post before Emre's strike.
Quotes from Keith
Harris of Seymour Pierce, handling the sale of the club:
"We have two very serious contenders
to buy it.
"We have had Nigerians that don't
exist, and South Africans told by the media they were bidding. The truth of
the matter is that the phone has rung several times, frequently because I have
made the calls - but they have reacted
to them.
"It is not easy doing anything in
this world whether it's selling a football club or anything else, but it will
come through.
"It's not been a question of dropping the price from that level. It's
been a question of making sure people have the absolute facts.
"Mike wants to get a maximum price
but he also wants to make sure that it goes into hands that will look after it
and nurture it for the future."
