  Philosophy CafeSunday, November 8. . 4PM-6PM. FREE. Topic: What is "New Age"? Is it at all a meaningful term? Should it or can it be resuscitated to designate some specific forms of thinking and reasoning? What is a philo café? A "philo café" is an open, public discussion about an interesting topic of philosophical interest. Everyone who comes is encouraged to participate, no formal training in philosophy is required, and there is no fee involved. A different question is selected as the topic for each session. The Lyceum is a secular organization, and our topics are discussed as ideas of philosophical inquiry, only.

Un drama histórico centrado sobre tres niños durante a la revolución del Allende y el posterior golpe de estado por Pinochet en 1973. Pro-bablemente, va a llorar por el fin. Directed by Andrés Wood. Historical drama centered around three kids around the Allende revolution and the subsequent coup by Pinochet in 1973. You will probably cry by the end.

  Handmade NationWednesday, November 18. Big Top. 6PM. Three Ring CircusTo celebrate the November 3rd DVD release of the indie craft documentary Handmade Nation by Faythe Levine, which chronicles the rise of DIY and the new wave of art, craft and design, the New Orleans Craft Mafia and the Big Top Art Gallery are teaming up for a FREE encore presentation of the film, Wednesday November 18th, 2009. The film will screen at 8 p.m. sharp at the Big Top’s multi-purpose 1638 Clio Street location. Before and after the screening, beginning at 6 p.m., and running til 10 p.m., the New Orleans Craft Mafia’s members will showcase their handmade and recycled wares for your early holiday shopping pleasure. The Handmade Nation DVD will be available for purchase from NOCM member Miss Malaprop at the event. (It is also available online at http://www.buyolympia.com/handmade.) Starting in 2006, Levine traveled to 15 cities, logged over 19,000 miles and interviewed more than 80 individuals who are part of a tightly knit crafting community which exists both online through websites, blogs and online stores as well as within local communities around the world in the form of craft fairs, independent boutiques, modern day knitting circles and networking groups like the Craft Mafia. These individuals merge traditional handcrafting techniques with a modern DIY (do it yourself) ethos, combining historical crafting techniques and artisan skills with 21st century aesthetics, punk, politics, feminism and art. Fueled by the common thread of creating, the film explores a burgeoning art community that is based on creativity, determination, and networking. The New Orleans Craft Mafia and Delgado Community College’s Irma Thomas W.I.S.E. Women Center premiered Handmade Nation to a standing-room-only crowd at Delgado’s Student Life Center in September, with filmmaker Faythe Levine in attendance. The overwhelming success of that event prompted the group to offer a second free screening for the New Orleans community, timed with the film’s DVD release.

Two hottt gay mercenaries in 1965 botch a bank robbery in Buenos Aires, exchanging gunfire and smoldering gazes of passion. Muy Classy.

Disney hace lo mejor doblado (hay que entrar a las cabezas de los jóvenes de todas las lenguas). Entonces vengan y vuelvan a vivir una memoria sórdida de su niñez y cantamos. Hay varios, entonces vamos a hacer el voto. Directed by a Corporation. Disney does the best dubbing (got to get into the heads of kids no matter the language). So come relive a sordid childhood moment and get to not sing along (unless you’re fluent that is). Got a couple of ‘em, so we’ll vote.

Director Alejandro Jodorowsky (Holy Mountain) is doing his thing and making craziness happen. Psychedelic western cult flick. Plus some allegory and satire of Mexican history and the Catholic church thrown in. Oh and some eastern yogi stuff, of course.

Todavía otra película sobre La Guerra Civil en España, y como las otras es muy buena y todavía algo distinta. Un grupo republicano de vodevil se encuentra en el territorio fascista donde son forzada a actuar. Travesuras chifladas y la muerte de una España libre sigan. Directed by Carlos Saura. Yet another movie about the Spanish Civil War, and like all the others so good and still something different. A Republican vaudeville group finds themselves in Fascist territory where they are forced to perform. Wacky hijinxs and the death of a free Spain ensue.
