The Middle East Post Celebrates its Third Year
October 24th, 2010Dear Our Friends
The Middle East Post celebrates its third year this October with more than 670 posts and articles that were written by different people about the Middle East. Following a long and hard working to find support for our journal project which we posted about several months ago, the family of the Middle East Post decided to start the Middle East Political Research Center which will be in charge of the Middle East Post and several other projects which we are preparing for the next year. The Middle East Political Research Center is an institution that already applied for a formal registration as a legal NGO in the Palestinian territories and

Life, Humans and their Mind III – Free Will
October 22nd, 2010Modern and late philosophers continue to discuss “Free Will” while considering determinism and the effect of the Natural system on Human’s life. Religion
that is the representative of the Heavenly system and even the Human law on earth state that every human has his or her free will to choose what to do and how to live.
It is interesting to think about our free will and how sometimes we are convinced that there are certain things which could oblige us to choose one thing and leave the other. Life is full of challenges that we sometimes feel that we are incapable of going through. We make our decisions while putting only two choices for ourselves while being sure that there is no third option. We sometimes put a purpose for our life and then convince ourselves that our failure is a result

winning the most important battle in life that happens to be with yourself? Or you never thought until this moment about facing yourself?
We are easily drowned into our fears once our mind takes the lead. Our beliefs, standards and codes of life guide our mind so the latter would be able to guide us through life. Those who prefer not to become leaders choose to follow their mind and their mind alone. They do not learn anything new and they

A Settlement on Settlements
October 4th, 2010- By Gitanjali Bakshi
October, 2010 Everyone involved in the current Israel-Palestine peace negotiations waited with bated breath for the 26th of September – the day the 10-month Israeli freeze on settlement building expired. Would Netanyahu extend the moratorium as a gesture of sincerity towards peace negotiations? Would Abbas be able to save face among the Palestinians if he didn’t? Will Obama’s effort to attend to a two-state solution actually amount to something? Or is this the end? The answers to these questions will set the course of Israel-Palestine relations for the next 12 months.

Why settlements are a reason for the Palestinians to stop the negotiations?
September 28th, 2010Eventhough the International community, the European union and the American administration are trying to convince the Palestinian leadership to wait and
not to leave the negotiations table because of the Israeli decision to continue in the settlements building, it seems that the Palestinians will have to put an end to the Israeli play that can be called “Directing the conflict” instead of finding a solution for it. Some say that settlements should not become an excuse for the Palestinians to stop the negotiations with Israel while Israeli leaders accused President

Kashmir – Another Intifada?
September 28th, 2010During the recent troubles in Kashmir, many analysts were quick to draw parallels between Kashmir and Palestine, stating that the unrest in the valley is
similar to that of the Palestinian Intifadas. According to the Christian Science Monitor, the nature of the recent protests – stone throwing by youth as a reaction to heightened security measures and economic stagnation – is strikingly comparable to the Palestinian riots witnessed in 1987 and 2000.
This method of analogy, pitting the Kashmir issue alongside the struggle in Palestine, has been used before: sometimes as a comparative framework,

Presidents with the Best and Worst Environmental Records
September 28th, 2010As with all political issues, environmental concerns are a lot more complicated than cable pundits would have you believe. Sure, it’d be a lot easier if
everything could be boiled down to slogans, but real environmental planning is a lot trickier. As a result, the presidents with the best and worst environmental records aren’t necessarily who you’d think they’d be.
Some of them have been ardent crusaders for green causes while simultaneously burning through natural resources; some have been lethal or uncaring leaders who nevertheless did more good than almost anyone else when it came to saving the planet.

A Few words about Life
September 15th, 2010
One of the greatest challenges which one would go through is the kind that takes place between someone and his mind. There is nothing more difficult than conquering ourselves in order to become the one we want. These challenges usually turn us into who we continue to be through our life.
The battle starts when a revolutionist thinks about rising against what we call a belief system. A belief system is a collection of beliefs and ideas that we are taught since our birth. Usually these beliefs, ideas and the society create for us a purpose that we live upon for the rest of our life. Overcoming what we

Academic Research: The relationship between the civilian and security realms in the Palestinian Authority (PA) from the Oslo Agreement to Hamas’s takeover of Gaza – By Ziad Khalil Abu Zayyad
September 8th, 2010
This is the first Academic Research which the Middle East Post publishes on it pages. The research studies the Palestinian security forces situation since the signing of Oslo agreement and until the Hamas take over of Gaza. Professor Oren Barrack about the seminar paper: “This is an interesting paper that discusses the relationship between the civilian and security realms in the Palestinian Authority (PA) from the Oslo Agreement to Hamas’s takeover of Gaza. Theoretically, it employs Huntington’s book from 1957 on civil-military relations and Barak & Sheffer’s “security network” approach. Empirically, the paper draw mostly on interviews conducted with former PA security officials. The paper reads well, though there are, occasionally, some errata. It also presents several interesting insights regarding the civilsecurity relationship in the Palestinian Territories during the Oslo period, particularly regarding the lack of professionalism and the informal ties that existed between security officials and Fatah, businessmen, and foreign actors and the way they obstructed “objective” civilian control there, in addition to Israel’s involvement. This helps explain the weakness of the Palestinian security apparatuses in that period.

Gaza Stay Human – Vittorio Arrigoni/ Introduction by Ilan Pappe – Book Review
August 28th, 2010Ilan Pappe, a professor of History at the University of Exeter starts his introduction in the book by saying: “ It is first and foremost an eyewitness account of
an everyman and a true humanist. He was there during the Operation “Cast Lead” and so his daily dispatches came directly from the killing fields of Gaza, and are therefore free of any media distortion or manipulation.” Gaza Stay Human is an amazing book that introduces the twenty-two day Israeli offensive against Gaza strip in December 2008 and January 2009.

Dahmash village under the threat of Israeli Demolition decisions
June 26th, 2010Dahmash is a village located within the municipal jurisdiction of the Emek Lod regional council in Israel. The village’s inhabitants – 600 people in 70
households – live on private lands legally registered in their names. In 1948, the entire area was declared agricultural lands. In the following years, all the inhabitants of the area have petitioned to change the designation of their lands from agricultural to residential. All the requests, except those of the Dahmash inhabitants, have been accepted. While the requests of nearly all the area’s inhabitants have been accepted, those of the people of Dahmash are still being argued in court.

I am not interested in discussing the negotiations program or even the armed resistance choice since the current situation proves whether any of them

June 21st, 2010Two issues are important to discuss while talking about opportunities: how to create opportunities and how to act once there is an opportunity.
An opportunity is something which most of us think comes alone. We think that opportunities are not something that we can make an effort to bring. In fact opportunities can be made and brought in a way or another. Not only knowing how to create opportunities is what we need but also knowing how and when to make a move is important.

Lessons In Leadership XXXI – Making Decisions
May 29th, 2010One of the most interesting challenges that we face through life is when we have to make decisions. Our life and who we become are related to our decisions
in the past. The challenge is not in facing a situation in which we have to decide and choose what we want, but it is in the way we create choices and options that we can choose from.
We usually try to convince ourselves that we need to decide by considering the fact that we only have two choices: either this or that. Once we put ourselves in such a situation we eliminate many choices we may have and concentrate on choosing from two choices that usually seem to be the opposite of each other.

When Israel suffered serious losses while leading wars against Lebanon, Gaza and even the six days war, the Israeli leaders used and continue until today to defend their decisions by claiming that it is a price which Israel must pay for the sake of empowering its deterrence power over the Middle East.
