"Oh the Places (I'll) Go"
With a nod to beloved Dr. Suess, sometimes it's the fan-directed stops along the road that are the most unpredictably wonderful and unique. The house concert in a holler 10 miles off the West Virginia blacktop, the studio podcast from the heart of Texas, or the concert in a backwoods B&B near a southwest Virginia art enclave - the gems of my life in music in between the more typical shows and channels of the business.
What does it take to get a place on the itinerary? Sometimes just a little help from you might be enough! 2 or 3 shows back to back, a Special Music Service on Sunday morning, maybe a school workshop, and an economically feasible and creatively inspiring mini-tour is born. You could even help arrange a concert at your house or a good friends - public venues not required.
I live within a day's drive of probably 50% of the US population, making long weekends out to places like Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Evansville, Flint, Greensboro, well, you get the idea. Most of the east is a long weekend, the Rocky Mountain States and Great Plains probably two weekends and the week in between. The West Coast remains the province of air travel and rent-a-cars - doable, but more costly - and Canada remains the great unexplored frontier to the north. Both would be lovely if we can make it feasible. And of course, bringing the band someplace is more complex and a bit more expensive, but we're always happy to see what we can do about filling all requests.
So, "give me something to work with", you say. OK, ask and you shall receive:
2011
- Mid-April to the Carolinas, Georgia too if we can swing it.
- First week of May - the northeast (New England, NY, NJ)
- June 4 - western WV or southeastern OH
- late August - Savannah and coastal NC
- Sept. 15-16 Ohio/Indiana
We're working on tours to Chicago and southern Wisconsin, Texas and the Gulf Coast and Florida all over the next 12 months, and we welcome your help.
Help is gratefully accepted in many ways - sharing the music with your friends and family is certainly always a big plus! If you'd like to pitch in, here is a list of things little and large that you can do in a few moments or with a few dollars. Thank you for doing so!
Hear Andrew "In the Music Room"
At the end of this year's Texas tour Andrew made his third visit to Tredway & Friends fabulous In the Music Room program in Waxahachie. During Andrew's first visit to their brand new studio, he gave an inspired solo performance of six songs including the previously unreleased "One More Year (A Farmer's Prayer)". He talks about a range of subjects with hosts Randy Tredway and Helen Kennedy, plays his cedar flute on air for the first time, and keeps the studio audience enthralled with his words and music.

Next Vidcast March 28th
The rising costs of gas, airfare and everything else have got all of our attention, and frankly are limiting a lot of musicians touring. So if Andrew hasn't been your way for awhile, or even if he is, take heart because we're planning another free live video webcast on Tuesday March 28th, solo from the comfort of his little old house on a dirt road and available right here on this page.
He's promising a few rarely-heard chestnuts from his five-CD catalog, a new song or three that he's been working on, and perhaps even a surprise cover tune or two. You are invited to join in the chat, make requests, and of course, share the show with your friends on Facebook, Twitter and more - the more new people we introduce to Andrew's music, the better. The easy-to-use Donate button allows you to donate what it's worth to you to help support Andrew. For any and all of these things, thanks for doing so.
The show goes live (barring technical SNAFUs, of course) around 9:30pm Eastern time on Tuesday March 28th 2011.
- To join the chat you must either create a free Ustream.tv account or log in using a Twitter account (maybe Facebook works as well now).
And of course, you're welcome to settle in and just watch it here on this embedded player. Please share your feedback on the experience - the vidcast technology and interface change and improve frequently but aren't always a smooth operation for us. Thanks so much for tuning in, and for your patience if we have any struggles getting the broadcast optimized.
Swag - Not Just for Rock Bands Anymore
In anticipation of the live CD and DVD release of the live Andrew McKnight & Beyond Borders project, we've taken the opportunity to help generate a little excitement and enthusiasm outside of our normal channels. Meet the bistro-style coffee mugs and oval car magnets, the latest additions to the merchandise table at shows and to the Buy page here at the website.
We were a little skeptical at first, but we're pretty pleased with the results, and we'd love to get some to you. They're affordable ($8/mug, $3/magnet), and every cent goes to help us finish the CD/DVD production. The logo below is also the car magnet and the front of the coffee mug.
The back of the coffee mug includes a quote from the liner notes to Andrew's fourth CD Beyond Borders;
"Let the journey continue now, into the uncharted lands ahead
with open hands, and open heart, beyond borders"We've heard that goes well with a fine Colombian, Kona or Mocha Java.

We are honored and pleased to share that Andrew was again nominated for a Washington Area Music Award as Best Male Vocalist in the Contemporary Folk category. Congratulations to Cletus Kennelly who won the Award, and to all this year's Winners and nominees.
