The SUS project team is made up of representatives from NHS Connecting for Health and the Health and Social Care Information Centre. The SUS project team supports the SUS Programme board through seven interrelated workstreams:
- The quality of services and support provided to local users of SUS by the commercial suppliers of systems and services, the Health and Social Care Information Centre and NHS Connecting for Health.

About the SUS Programme
The Secondary Uses Service (SUS) Programme supports the NHS and its partners by providing a single source of comprehensive data for the following areas:
- planning
- commissioning
- management
- research
- audit
- public health
- Payment by Results, a reimbursement mechanism for acute care payments.
Who delivers what for SUS?
- NHS Connecting for Health has responsibility for the procurement and management of the contractual and technical delivery of SUS to support end user needs.
- The NHS Information Centre for health and social care has overall responsibility for delivering the SUS to users, Commissioners and Providers of NHS funded care.
What does Secondary Uses Services cover?
The Secondary Uses Service (SUS) is primarily a data warehouse that provides access to anonymous patient-based data for purposes other than direct clinical care such as:
- healthcare planning
- commissioning services
- public health
- national policy development

SUS Project Team
The SUS project team is made up of representatives from NHS Connecting for Health and The NHS Information Centre for health and social care. The SUS project team supports the SUS Programme board through seven interrelated workstreams:
- benefits realisation
- data quality
- implementation planning
- service management development
- training
- user assurance
- user engagement and communications
SUS User Group
The SUS User Group (SUG) provides advice and support to the SUS Programme Board on:
- Technical and local operational issues associated with the submission of data to SUS and access to data maintained within SUS for analysis, reporting and extraction.
- Issues, which impact on the quality of data submitted to SUS and actions that need to be taken both locally and centrally to address these issues.
- The quality of services and support provided to local users of SUS by the commercial suppliers of systems and services, the NHS Information Centre and NHS Connecting for Health.
- Priorities for the development of additional or enhanced functionality within the core SUS warehouse and associated data marts.
Please note from Monday 27th June the hosting of SUS web pages has transferred to the NHS IC at http://www.ic.nhs.uk/sus. The NHS IC site will be responsible for updating SUS service announcements, what's new updates, training materials, KPI results and data quality dashboard information.
The current Connecting for Health SUS pages you are viewing will continue to be present until the end of July, for archiving purposes, will not be updated after 27th June. Please can you take the opportunity to now alter any SUS book marked pages you may have saved.

20 July 2011: Concatenated Shared Service Extracts Released
The Concatenated Shared Service Extract service has now passed pilot testing and is released for use by Shared Service Organisations and will be published for registered users in early July. The User Guide for this service is available.
Shared Services wishing to register for this service should email IC Contact Centre at contactcentre@ic.nhs.uk.
20 June 2011: Changes to the SUS web pages with effect from 27th June 2011
With effect from the 27th June 2011 the current hosting arrangements from the SUS web pages will be changing. From the 27th June SUS service announcements, what's new updates, training materials, KPI results and data quality dashboard information will be hosted by The NHS IC at http://www.ic.nhs.uk/sus. To support you through this period of change the current Connecting for Health SUS Pages will continue to be present until the end of July but will not be updated after the 27th June 2011. We therefore suggest that you alter any book marked pages you have saved from the 27th June.
20 June 2011: New data added to Data Quality Dashboards
The following Data Quality Dashboards now include data submitted to SUS by the Month 1 inclusion date (20/05/2011):
- Combined Data Quality (formerly the separate Provider and Commissioner DQ dashboards)
- Maternity Data Quality
- Adult Critical Care
The Data Quality Dashboards are available (N3 connection required).
Previous versions of the dashboards are now available to download. Dashboards for each Month of 2010/11 and the final dashboards for 2009/10 and 2008/09 can also be downloaded.
To use the Data Quality Dashboards you first need to complete the registration form.

15 June 2011: Corrected Readmission Extracts Published
As previously communicated, an error was made in the way that the April 2011 Readmissions extract was executed this month. This error has resulted in data for March 2011 being omitted from processing. BT have now reprocessed and published the corrected extracts. These will have the same name as the previously delivered readmissions extract however, users will be able to differentiate the new version by the Creation Date field visible in the inbox.
This error did not impact any other extracts delivered on 31 May and will not impact future extracts. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this error.
