Inchicore Drama students take part in historical reconstruction in Town HallDecember 22nd, 2011
To celebrate the 60th anniversary of Pembroke Town Hall becoming the headquarters of the City of Dublin VEC, CDVEC organised a series of events, including a dramatic reconstruction of two events from the1900’s.
The event was attended by the Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairí Quinn, CEO of CDVEC, Jacinta Stewart, and Chairperson, Cllr. Paddy Bourke.
The first event was inspired by a meeting in January 1901 of a subcommittee appointed by the Pembroke Urban District Council to frame a scheme of technical instruction for the district of Pembroke. The second was based on an eye-witness account by the Town Clerk during the 1916 rising when the Town Hall was occupied by the British Military and martial law was enforced.
These enactments were staged by students from the Acting course at Inchicore College, directed by course director Sharon O’Doherty and costumed by Leonore McDonagh, director of our Costume Design course and assisted by students from that course.
Sharon built on the initial research and produced two wonderful vignettes, enacting scenes from the early days of Pembroke House, in the very boardroom where the original minutes and records are stored. This evocation of Edwardian Pembroke was enhanced by the fact that the actors were dressed in appropriate period costumes selected by Inchicore’s costume expert, Leonore McDonagh.
Between performances the cast stayed in role and strolled about the building displaying their magnificent costumes, chatting to the guests and showing them around the Town Hall.
The Town Hall performers on the day were:
Inchicore CFE Theatre and performance students under the direction of Sharon O’Doherty.

ICFE dance students at dance lab in FranceDecember 22nd, 2011
ICFE Dance Studies course secured funding from the Leonardo Lifelong Learning fund to send ten students to the prestigious Le Pacifique Choreographic Development Centre in Grenoble, France, for a three-week intensive dance laboratory. Under the mentorship of dance artiste Jackie Simoncelli, the students created and performed an original twenty-minute dance work, produced by Le Pacifique, and performed for a local audience in the theatre.
Our students were introduced to the influence of a number of French dance artists while there: taking daily technique classes with Nicolas Hubert, Sophie Gérard and Youtci Erdos; along with extra-curricular workshops (Swing with Aude and Vincent, repertoire and performance with Clint Lutes and Céline Perroud), in related contemporary dance practises. The students also had scheduled museum, gallery and dance performance visits, which, along with the experience of living in a French town, exposed them to cultural experiences that were enriching and rewarding.
These students have returned to continue their training at Inchicore with renewed vigour and a greater sense of their chosen art form in a European context.
International Day 2011December 20th, 2011
International day was held on the 8 December and it was extremely successful. This academic year we have students from thirty two different countries. We began the day with a taste of some culinary delights from different countries such as, Russia, Ethiopia, Nigeria, America, Italy and Poland to mention but a few. This was followed by some entertainment. It was wonderful to see all the different performers demonstrate their cultural identity with such pride. The acts included belly dancing, bollywood dancing, singing, Irish dancing and break dancing. What made the day so special was the wonderful national dress worn by many people who participated and how everyone was so supportive and generous in giving of their time. A special thanks to the DJ who added to the party atmosphere. The whole event was in aid of UNICEF and many thanks to those who donated.
