Nov. 11, 2009 1833 About 60 people set sail from New York bound for Texas to found what would become Bealess Rio Grande Colony, a settlement on Las Moras Creek near Presidio del Rio Grande. Poor crops, Indian attacks and Santa Annas invasion would eventually cause the colony to fail. -
